WISE OLD MAN

Maybe we should do this!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Twas the night before Christmas & out on the ranch

The pond was froze over & so was the branch.

The snow was piled up belly-deep to a mule.

The kids were all home on vacation from school,

And happier young folks you never did see-

Just all sprawled around a-watchin' TV.

Then suddenly, some time around 8 o'clock,

There came a surprise that gave them a shock!

The power went off, the TV went dead!

When Grandpa came in from out in the shed

With an armload of wood, the house was all dark.

"Just what I expected," they heard him remark.

"Them power line wires must be down from the snow.

Seems sorter like times on the ranch long ago."

"I'll hunt up some candles," said Mom. "With their light,

And the fireplace, I reckon we'll make out all right."

The teen-agers all seemed enveloped in gloom.

Then Grandpa came back from a trip to his room,

Uncased his old fiddle & started to play

That old Christmas song about bells on a sleigh.

Mom started to sing, & 1st thing they knew

Both Pop & the kids were all singing it, too.

They sang Christmas carols, they sang "Holy Night,"Their eyes all a-shine in the ruddy firelight.

They played some charades Mom recalled from her youth,

And Pop read a passage from God's Book of Truth.

They stayed up till midnight-and, would you believe,

The youngsters agreed 'twas a fine Christmas Eve.

Grandpa rose early, some time before dawn;

And when the kids wakened, the power was on.

"The power company sure got the line repaired quick,"

Said Grandpa - & no one suspected his trick.

Last night, for the sake of some old-fashioned fun,

He had pulled the main switch - the old Son-of-a-Gun!

THE CHRISTMAS TEN COMMANDMENTS

1. Thou shalt give thy heart to Christ. Let Him be at the top of thy
Christmas list.

2. Thou shalt prepare thy soul for Christmas. Spend not so much on gifts
that thy soul is forgotten.

3. Thou shalt not let Santa Claus replace Christ, thus robbing the day of
its spiritual reality.

4. Thou shalt not burden the shop girl, the mailman, and the merchant with
complaints and demands.

5. Thou shalt give thyself with thy gift. This will increase its value a
hundred fold, and he who receiveth it shall treasure it forever.

6. Thou shalt not value gifts received by their cost. Even the least
expensive may signify love, and that is more priceless than silver and gold.

7. Thou shalt not neglect the needy. Share thy blessings with many who will
go hungry and cold unless thou are generous.

8. Thou shalt not neglect thy church. Its services highlight the true
meaning of the season.

9. Thou shalt be as a little child. Not until thou has become in spirit as a
little one art thou ready to enter into the kingdom of Heaven.

10. Thou shall not forget to share your joy, peace and faith with those
around you.

Blessed with a Godly Mother

BLESSED WITH A GODLY MOTHER

What a thrill to be blessed with a Godly mother. I met my brother at Pigeon Forge Saturday and picked up my mother to stay with us a few days. It was a thrill to have her in church and worship the Lord together yesterday. As my daughter sang there was a gleam in here eye that only grandma’s can give to encourage one to praise the Lord.

Yesterday we lounged around until 6:00 and met with the whole Cleveland clan of Dasher’s. With mom present we had 100% participation with 25 present at Golden Corral. The kids were noisy; the adults were smiling as everyone enjoyed a couple of hours together. Mom was so happy everyone was present. We ask her to testify and one is always blessed when she does.

Mom can tell you about the goodness of the Lord and how he has been so good to her and the whole family better than anyone I know. As she spoke everyone listened intently because we knew words of love would come forth from her heart.

Today as I arise she says “what do you want for breakfast?” We had some leftover grits yesterday and she is one to never waste so she made her an egg batter and rolled these grits in it and need I say how good it was today.

And now as all who know her she gathers up the dishes and cleans out the bowls and pans and clean the kitchen with loving care. That’s my mom. At neigh 88 just get out of her way and you will be fine.

Lord I thank you for this time together with the lady who brought me into this world. I hope my prayers reach you as well as I know hers does each day. She has a list of all the family and many others that she calls out before you each day to bless them, encourage them, and meet their needs.

Everyday is Mother’s Day for me and even though her hearing fails and I have to say put your hearing aide in mom it is good just to be able to do it and tell her I love her once again.

Hope all of you have a good day and slow down and enjoy the Christmas season, remember its Jesus birthday we celebrate. Don’t be in debt to anyone but JESUS.
