THE LORD IS MY ROCK, MY FORTRESS, MY DELIVERER

My mother’s Bible cover has a lighthouse and these words on it. Be encouraged with the first three verses of Psalm 18 as you read with me.

¹I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.

²The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

³I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

The Tyndale Life Application summed it up real good I think.

“God’s protection of his people is limitless and can take many forms. David characterized God’s care with five military symbols. God is like:

1. A rock that can’t be penetrated by anyone who would harm us.

2. A fortress or place of safety where the enemy can’t follow.

3. A buckler, or shield, that comes between us and harm.

4. A horn of salvation, a symbol of might and power.

5. A tower high above our enemies.

If you need protection look to God”

It is so important for us to remember GOD IS. With him we need nothing else because he will see us safely thru. So today I wish you enough of God to believe that HE IS and will keep that which he has promised.

What Having A Brain Tumor Has Taught Me

Having a brain tumor is scary. And while I'll be the first to admit it, I also think it can teach me (and you) some really important lessons about life. That's the idea of this post any way.

It's been 14 years since I first learned that I had a brain tumor. Actually, I had four. After a 12 hour surgery, they could only get three of them, so they closed me up and let the final one stay in place. And it didn't cause much problems until recently.

I first started getting headaches about three weeks before my swim of the Mississippi River. My head hurt a lot, and I felt weak the day of the swim, and I then began experiencing nausea and dizziness once it was done.

Now, as I prepare for surgery to remove the tumor, I want to give you some lessons to use in your own life, when you inevitably face adversity. My hope is that you will take them and use them to make you better.

1) Bad things sometime happen to good people. You might be a positive person. You might help others. You might do a lot of wonderful things. None of that will keep you from having to face adversity though. It's just part of life. Deal with it.

2) That which does not kill me, makes me stronger. Maybe not physically, but certainly mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. You must be open to the lessons adversity is trying to teach you though. If you learn them, you'll be stronger as a result.

3) It could always be worse. As bad as things may seem at the time, I know they could always be worse. If it was fifty years ago, for instance. Or, if I had not been blessed to be born where I was. Or...Well, you get the idea.

4) Your attitude makes the difference. While it takes a lot more more than just attitude to accomplish a major goal, your attitude really does make a huge difference when it comes down to your overcoming the difficulties of life or not.

5) Prepare now. Since you don't know when adversity will strike, it's important to be preparing yourself now. If not, it would be like getting ready for a hurricane when it is bearing down on you. It's too late then.

Jay Platt is a highly accomplished adventure athlete, and is the director of the "No Matter What!" Foundation.

Jay's fundraising efforts support a variety of charitable groups including the Lance Armstrong Foundation, the Wounded Warrior Project, American Cancer Society, and many others.

Prior to his current role, Jay served for fifteen years as a United States Marine. Enlisting in the Marine Corps at age 17, he saw tours of duty worldwide, from Parris Island, SC to Southeast Asia and various points in between.

In the fall of 1998, Jay's Marine Corps career was brought to an end when complications from a rare cancer syndrome forced his medical retirement as as a Gunnery Sergeant.

Since his retirement from the Marine Corps, Jay has worked to make a difference in the lives of others by raising hundreds of thousands of dollars through various fundraising adventures.

In 1999, he completed a grueling southbound thru-hike of the more than 2,100 mile Appalachian Trail, becoming one of fewer than 300 people, at the time, ever to have done so.

And in 2005, he swam Alcatraz Island to San Francisco (with his hands and feet tied!) becoming one of only three people in history to complete the difficult swim in such a way.

Jay has been written about in numerous magazines and news-papers, and has been a guest on every major TV network and on dozens of radio shows.

As a speaker and coach, his diverse clientele includes the National Institutes of Health, IBM, TAP Pharmaceuticals, and the United States Naval Academy.

Jay is the author and co-author of several books and audio programs, including his latest: No Matter What! How to be Unstoppable, Despite the Obstacles, Starting Today.

Although a Georgia native, he resides in eastern South Carolina where he lives and loves life with his wife, Paz, and their three dogs, Jake, Sadie, and Molly.

Jay is a professional member of the National Speakers Association and the International Coach Federation.

GLORY BE UNTO GOD

If you are reading this you are well into 2012. To God be the glory for he has given us breath and life to begin a new year. It is so wonderful to know God and to know He lives within us and he continues to bless me. I often say I don’t know how anyone makes it in this life without the Lord.

As I took our dogs on their morning walk I heard a flock of birds overhead making their journey south. I thought they are a little bit late because it’s been in the teens here but then I remember that God knows right where they are and watches over them.

My daughter sings that song He’s on time every time, my God is on time, and I proclaim yes he is on time for He is God. You may take God out of our schools, you may take Him off our money but you cannot take Him out of me. I can still hear some dear ole saints as they proclaim “glory be unto God.”

As I was spending some time using my V Flex machine this morning I began to sing from the top of my lungs and from the bottom of my heart both in the spirit and out of the spirit proclaiming God. I know God heard me as I cried out to him and prayed for my prayer list. My dog’s just look at me like I’m crazy and I guess I am because I keep falling in love with Him, over and over again. Yes, it gets sweeter and sweeter as the days go by.

We are on three programs at church this month, the 21 day fasting and praying that many churches are doing, and our 31 days of fasting from complaining, and 31 days of specific prayer for our pastor. Wow! It keeps us going.

Last night my daughter ask if she had a bad attitude would that be complaining and I said I think so, so she said well I’ll have to write this one down. It is amazing how easy it is to complain. But it is special when we recognize it and overcome it.

Therefore today I proclaim glory be unto God for He is worthy of all praise. Remember He is here right now and He will lift you higher in Him.

WAS JESUS THE REASON FOR YOUR SEASON

Christmas has come and gone for another year. As you reflect on this Christmas Season can you see the things you did reflecting Christ. There have been visits from our kids, visits to our parents and grandparents. Many hugs and kisses as we go our way.

Everyone has been jolly and wished others “Merry Christmas” as we go on our hurried way. We have opened our gifts and given our gifts hoping we gave just the right thing or received what we hinted to someone we wanted.

Some have gone to Christmas programs at school and church and rejoiced as the Christ child is lifted high to the world. In the midst of all of this I hope you took time for Jesus and did just what our Lord would have you do.

I enjoyed our time at church as we opened the gifts brought for Christ that was placed under our tree. There were simple things like Kleenex and paper towels and church supplies that will help in the year ahead. We even took some of the cash and bought windshield washer to put in our bathrooms to help them not freeze this winter.

Being on Face book has been a blessing because we got to see and hear from so many of you as you shared pictures or told about your love for Jesus in this Christmas season.

Then, I like many of you had moments of remembering our love ones that left us this year. So many of you knew just what to share to lift some of us up in this moment of sadness in our lives and we are thankful.

I believe for many of you Jesus was the reason for the season as you helped your family and friends and strangers have a joyous Christmas Season. Whether it was a hug, a gift card, a kind note or just a simple I love you I believe that is what Jesus would have done.

One of my friends had his second Christmas celebration his return to Christ. One shared they were on the streets of Denver and several accepted Christ. Wow! What joy filled my soul as I read of souls coming home to Jesus.

Wherever you were, whatever you did to share Jesus is special. My prayer would be we would remember this ole world and all we endeavor to do in the year ahead like it was Christmas.
