Hindrances to Prayer

1John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

When prayers are not answered, you should examine yourself in the light of God’s Word. If you find anything not pleasing to God, confess it believing God for forgiveness that your prayers may be answered.

1Peter 3:7 “Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.”

Preacher, have you ever had words with your wife or family on the way to church and then try to preach? An unharmonious relationship with your family will hinder your prayers. Of course this is true for anyone.

James 4:3 “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts” Selfishness will hinder prayer and keep you from having fellowship with God.

Matthew 5:22-24

22But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

23Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;

24Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

An unforgiving spirit will hinder prayer. Many Christians go without answers to prayer because they have wronged others; or have been wronged, and failed to humble themselves and seek reconciliation. Don’t hang on to it let it go and open up that clear channel to the Lord.

Unbelief will hinder prayer. God looks for us to come to him with faith and believe him for what we have need of.

Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

And finally, if you have known sin in your heart it will hinder your prayers. So, when you pray, go to Jesus in all humility. Ask Him to reveal anything in your life that is not pleasing to Him. Then, judge it; confess it; calling it by name; and forsake it. Pray in all simplicity and earnestness, believing, and God will hear and answer. We have an awesome God who waits for our call.

Remember:

If you have missed knowing me, you have missed nothing. If you have missed some of my emails, you have missed a laugh or an uplifting word.
But, if you have missed knowing my LORD and SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST, you have missed everything in the world.

1John 1:9 “If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
