A PRAYER OF DAVID PSALM 17

David wrote this while being persecuted by Saul. He makes a plea for justice in the face of accusations and persecution. He urges us to realize the true goal of life to know God and the true reward of life to see God one day. Join me in reading Psalm 17.

17 Hear the right, O Lord, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips.
Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; let thine eyes behold the things that are equal.
Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.
Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer.
Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not.
I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.
Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them.
Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,
From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about.
10 They are inclosed in their own fat: with their mouth they speak proudly.
11 They have now compassed us in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth;
12 Like as a lion that is greedy of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.
13 Arise, O Lord, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword:
14 From men which are thy hand, O Lord, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.
15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

Was David saying he was sinless? David’s claim was not a proud assumption of purity, it was an understanding of his relationship with God. David freely acknowledged his own sins. Nevertheless, his relationship with God was one of close fellowship and constant repentance and forgiveness. His claim to goodness, therefore, came from his continual seeking after God.

We must not conclude that we have somehow missed God’s protection if we experience troubles. God’s protection has far greater purposes than helping us avoid pain; it is to make us better servants for him. God often protects us by guiding us through circumstances, not by helping us to escape them.

We deceive ourselves when we measure our happiness or contentment in life by the amount of wealth we possess. The true measurement of happiness or contentment is found in God’s love and in doing his will. You will find true happiness if you put your relationship with God above earthly riches.

Allow the Lord to prove your heart and visit you in the night.

WECOME HOME VIETNAM VETERANS
April 16, 2013, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee
This week my wife and I took a journey to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee for this special event of “Welcome Home Vietnam.” In 1966 we took our first journey having been newlyweds in 1965 as we said goodbye for a year at the Chattanooga, TN airport as I took my first plane ride on my way to Viet Nam.

It still brings back cold chills and tears as I watched my precious wife in tears as I flew away. On April 24 we will have taken journeys together for 48 years and we are thankful God have blessed us and been with us all the way.

US Tours brought this idea to us and we celebrated together with other Vietnam Veterans remembering our youthful days. A handful could still get into their uniforms but most of us haven’t been able to in a long time. Some notes from a post by our State President put it this way.

“A special thank you to Chapter 979 for an exemplary performance of Color Guard duties at Welcome Home Vietnam - at the Dixie Stampede, Opening Ceremonies and for the Parade.

Vietnam veterans from 28 states descended on Pigeon Forge for a Welcome Home a long-time in coming.  It was great to see such a strong representation from Chapters 203, 240, 596, 741, 875, 953, 979, 995, 1004, 1015 and 1073…

Commissioner Grinder delivered remarks that had us all teary-eyed.  Her contributions to the entire event/parade were, as usual, most appreciated…

Adrian "Goooooooooooooood Morning Vietnam" Cronauer was a special treat for us all and he went out of his way to spend time with as many as he could.  Delivered special remarks at the opening ceremonies, served as co-Grand Marshal of the Parade…

Pat Gualtieri, of the United War Veterans Council (and VVA member) and organizer of the huge New York City Veterans Parade also spoke to us and he presented the TSC the honor of accepting a flag that had flown over the World Trade Center.

All of this would not have been possible without the initial idea, professionalism, enthusiasm and coordination by Bob Cline, Rita Ritenour and the rest of the staff of US Tours.  I can't thank them enough.  Plans are already in the works for an even bigger event next year.”

What a wonderful parade, people smiled, cried, waved and gave cheers to welcome us home. Chapter 596 Cleveland Tennessee is thankful to Jerry Goodner for taking us on his boat as our float.

As we went down the street there stood that precious soul mate and sweetheart cheering her heart out as we passed by. Wow! She’s even prettier today than she was in 1966 but this time it was joy running in our veins as we spotted each other.

Why would I take one of my Surfing with Jesus writings to tell you about this story? Well, it’s because I am so thankful God have allowed me to be alive and tell you about his love and his care for me. I came home, I live, and I want everyone to know we gave part of our life for you to have the freedom you have today.

Hey, guess what? We had no tomatoes, or rotten potatoes thrown at us. We had no yells of baby killer, we had no one shun us, we were WELOME from one and all and for this we are thankful to you the people that took the time on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon to welcome us home. God bless you and God bless the USA.

The same Jesus I took with me to Vietnam and the same Jesus I have in my heart today wants to welcome you home too. Use the scripture below to reach out to him today. He awaits your return, welcome home.

FEELING MIGHTY FINE
Sitting at my computer this morning thinking of what the day holds this ole song just popped into my heart and I began to sing. Join me as you start your day.
I woke up this morning feeling fine I woke up with heaven on my mind
I woke up with joy in my soul cause I knew my Lord had control
I knew I was walkin' in the light cause I'd been on my knees in the night
And I'd pray till the Lord gave a sign and now I'm feeling mighty fine

Well I'm feeling mighty fine I've got heaven on my mind
Don't you know I want to go where the milk and honey flow
There's a light that always shines down inside this heart of mine
I've got heaven on my mind and I'm feeling mighty fine

We're walking with Jesus all the time we're walking and talking as we climb
We're traveling a road to the sky where I know I'll live when I die
He's been telling me all about that land and he tells me that everything is grand
And he says that a home will be mine and now I'm feeling mighty fine

Now, didn’t that make you feel good? Go have a good day and allow God to bless you and direct your path.

If you don’t know Jesus today is the day of Salvation, repent and be baptized and then you can sing this song from your heart.

WHAT ONE DOES FOR GOD WILL LAST

Now that our annual celebration of Easter is past, we must continue the work until he comes. How can one do this? The best way is to let your light shine today in your world and let Jesus lead you to loving and helping those who are in need.

After Jesus resurrection he told them to go and tarry in Jerusalem. Some 40 days later we find 120 of them together in the upper room when the Holy Ghost descended upon them and they were all filled and began to speak in tongues, The people were amazed as they heard their language being spoken and wanted to know what was going on.

Peter stood up and began to take them back to what had been written and led them thru the word up to the present day. The word pierced their heart and they ask “what they must do to be saved.” Now Peter, the one who denied he knew Christ three times said “repent and be baptized every one of you in name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins…”

Wow! What a difference in Peter after receiving the Holy Ghost. He spoke with boldness and about 3000 was added to the church that day. When one gets hold of Christ and Christ gets hold of you your world will be turned upside down and you too will be able to proclaim Jesus and win the lost to the Lord.

No, you can’t do it on your own, its takes the spirit of God touching you and piercing hearts as you proclaim “repent.” You are the vessel that God wants to use. Acts 1:8 says “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

Your Jerusalem is your town, your job, your family, your neighbors and friends. When God gets hold of you and you yield to the Holy Ghost no one knows where he may lead you to be a witness.

Lord, I cry out today to let us witness and be about the work you left us to do. Lord, help us to have open hearts and minds to win the lost and celebrate with the angels in heaven when one receives you.
