Change of address

If you keep in touch with family and friends through the postal service or e-mail, you probably have received or sent a change of address notice. It goes something like this: “I will no longer be receiving mail at _____________. My new address will be _____________. Thank you for making a note of this change.”

Paul reminded the believers in Colosse that they had “a change of address” and that they should share it with others. They had been moved from one community and “conveyed” or transplanted, by the grace of God, into a new community. They had been rescued from the kingdom of darkness and been brought into the kingdom of Jesus (1:13). Their old address was sinner@kingdomofdarkness. But when they became followers of Jesus, their new address became saved@kingdomofHisdearSon.

In Philippians 3:20, Paul declared that all believers are citizens of heaven and should live worthy of their new address. He encouraged the Christians in Colosse to walk in wisdom toward those who were outside the faith so that people could see and hear about the changes (Col. 4:5-6).

If you have had “a change of address,” tell someone about what Jesus has done in you.

When we’re reborn—made new in Christ—
It should be plain for all to see
That God has changed us from within
And placed us in His family. —Sper

When Jesus comes into a life, He changes everything.

I had to share this it is so good, it was shared by one of our friends. Sharing Jesus is so vital for you and the souls you touch. When we share we grow in the Lord. I’m thankful I have a have a change of address. How about you?

Law of the Garbage Truck’ an unwritten rule

By Jim Davidson

Cleveland Daily Banner

Have you ever let some thoughtless, insensitive person ruin your day because of something they said or did to you? Well, that’s a loaded question. We all have. In most cases it’s hard to deal with, especially if this person is one we encounter on a regular basis.

All of us have bad days from time to time and if we are not careful the natural thing to do is take our sour mood or poor disposition out on someone else. Out in the public square and even at work we have things like this happen all too frequently, and if we are not careful or don’t know how to deal with these all-too-frequent occurrences we stay hurt or upset more than we should.

Fortunately, a friend sent me something a while back that could be a big part of the solution to the negative things we encounter almost every day like a rude waitress, a driver that cuts us off and then has the audacity to shake his fist at us, a curt boss or an insensitive customer.

What this friend sent me was one of those countless e-mails we all receive. This one was called “The Law of the Garbage Truck.” I checked it out on the Internet and found several listings, but could not determine for sure the author’s name. The reason I am sharing this piece is because it has such a powerful message that applies to all of us.

It seems a man in New York City flagged down a taxi several years ago and here is what happened. He says, “We took off for Grand Central Station and were driving in the right lane when, all of a sudden, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded and missed the other car’s back end by just inches! The driver of the other car, the guy that almost caused the accident, whipped his head around and started yelling bad words at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. I mean he was friendly.

“So, I said, ‘Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!’ And this is when my taxi driver told me what I now call, ‘The Law of the Garbage Truck.’ Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it. And if you let them, they’ll dump it on you. When someone wants to dump on you, don’t take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish the person well and move on. You’ll be happy you did. And they will have a lighter load of garbage to dump on someone else’.

“So that was it: the ‘Law of the Garbage Truck.’ I started thinking about how often I let garbage trucks run right over me. And how often do I take their garbage and dump it on other people: at work, at home, on the streets? It was that day that I said, ‘I’m not going to do it anymore.’ I began to see garbage trucks. Like the movie ‘The Sixth Sense,’ the little boy said, ‘I See Dead People.’ Well, now ‘I See Garbage Trucks.’ I see the load they are carrying. I see them coming to drop it off. And like my taxi driver, I don’t make it a personal thing: I just smile, wave, wish them well and move on.

“One of the best football players of all time, Walter Payton, did this every day on the football field. He would jump up as quickly as he hit the ground after being tackled. He never dwelled on a hit and was always ready to make the next play his best. He also didn’t want the tackler to think that he had gotten the best of him. Walter decided that he would win by jumping back up. You can, too.

“Good leaders know they have to be ready for their next meeting. Good parents know they have to welcome their children home from school with hugs and kisses. Leaders and parents know they have to be fully present and at their best for the people they care about. The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life’s too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so … love the people who treat you right. And pray for the ones who don’t. Only God can change them. If you get a chance, take it! If it changes your life, let it! Nobody ever said it would be easy. They just promised that it would be worth it.”

To me, whether it’s true or not, this wonderful story helps to place things in the proper perspective. However, here is a word of caution. We must be able to separate the wheat from the chaff. We should never begin to think that everyone is a garbage truck because most people are nice people and we should always expect the best from everyone.

KEEPING FAITH

KEEPING FAITH is knowing that life is a gift, and each day we have on earth is precious;

KEEPING FAITH is climbing above the clouds and dancing on stardust;

KEEPING FAITH is knowing the value of friendship and love;

KEEPING FAITH is seeing beauty and wonder in everything like the light in every child’s eyes;

KEEPING FAITH is appreciating all living things beneath heaven;

KEEPING FAITH is embracing the wisdom of our elders and seeing the beauty in their hands;

KEEPING FAITH is seeing angels soaring on celestial wings and feeling their presence;

KEEPING FAITH is knowing that what lives in the heart is our greatest earthly value;

KEEPING FAITH is knowing that those we love are life’s greatest treasures;

KEEPING FAITH is finding hope through trials and finding joy through pain;

KEEPING FAITH is appreciating each tiny leaf and each drop of snow;

KEEPING FAITH is knowing that each dawn is a chance to start anew;

KEEPING FAITH is finding strength in who we are;

KEEPING FAITH is having the courage to pick up the pieces and try again;

KEEPING FAITH is believing that wonderful things are yet to happen and life is filled with countless surprises;

KEEPING FAITH is knowing that we’re not alone, and that God is guiding each step;

KEEPING FAITH is believing that miracles do happen and dreams do come true;

KEEPING FAITH means that all we ever dreamed of is within reach when we believe in God, and in ourselves. (Author Unknown) Received from Nubia Group

OVERCOMING DISCOURRAGEMENTS #66801152011

OVERCOMING DISCOURAGEMENTS

The Bible is full of examples of people overcoming discouragements. However when we are discouraged it is difficult at the time to see that anyone can see or feel what we are experiencing. This week has been one of frustration for me with Surfing with Jesus. I got it written and ready to send but no matter what I tried it just would not post. Internal error 500 it would say. What in this world I would reply and then I would try again.

Finally on Friday I found out the folks I use had made changes on their end I was unaware of. Now after days of frustration it’s in your hands. Wow! This is wonderful so I thought I would go ahead and write a new Surfing with Jesus for this week. Have no fear it didn’t happen because a virus from an e-mail from a trusted friend took hold of my computer and I was delayed for two days for repairs.

This is a small thing compared to what I see some of you going thru this week but it was discouraging for me. An update on my mother and her massive stroke finds her no worse and no better I would say. Several of you have had discouragements with sickness and lingering illness, and even death in your families this week. I pray God will lift you up and help you today as you trust him with your needs. Be encouraged God is ever present and near.

My wife received a call from her Aunt in California this week asking I go to the hospital and pray for a loved one that is being given just a few days to live. Her concern was his relationship with God. One can become discouraged when they are not sure if their love one is ready to meet the Lord. Be encouraged dear one, your love one prayed with my brother-in-law and me and acknowledge he received the word and has accepted Christ. Oh praise the Lord, we rejoiced with the angels in heaven.

Let us go forth this week in the strength of the Lord as we mediate on a familiar verse. Read with me Isa. 40:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

The ole song says “teach me Lord to wait down on my knees.” Lord help us to sing it and help us to experience it as we call upon you trusting you as we learn to lean not on our own understanding. Help us Lord in all our ways to acknowledge you knowing you will direct our path. Thank you Jesus, thank you this moment for your strength we need today.
