God’s word
was written to be studied, understood, and applied, and the book of Psalms
lends itself most directly to application. We understand Psalms best when we “stand
under” them and allow them to flow over us like a rain shower. We may turn to
Psalms looking for something, but sooner or later we will meet Someone. As we
read and memorize the psalms, we will gradually discover how much they are already
part of us. They put into words our deepest hurts, longings, thoughts, and
prayers. They gently push us toward being what God designed us to be people
loving and living for him.
I used these
thoughts on June 10, 1990 while pastoring Eastview COGOP. I took this outline from
Tyndale’s Life Application Bible and find them still to be real and true today.
Put it in your Bible, post it on your refrigerator, put it on your bulletin
board but most of all post it in your heart and allow it to help you on your
journey with Christ.
REMEMBER
“If we confess our sins he is
faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.” 1John 1:9
