PERSEVERE

I have had this thought on my mind for several days now and can't seem to escape it,To persevere. First I've had all kinds of trouble spelling it. Maybe that in itself is my thought that we keep on until we have completed our course.

In all of life's up's and down's when you know God has called you to a task, determine you are going to complete it. Though discouragement and opposition may come the rewards of a job well done is worth your effort.

Nehemiah 4:6 So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work.

One commentator writes that the rebuilding of the wall progressed well because the people had set their hearts and minds on accomplishing the task. Nehemiah constantly combined prayer with preparation. His people trusted God and at the same time kept vigilant watch over what had been entrusted to them. When we pray and look for the role God wants us to have in our projects, we show him we are serious as we combine prayer with thought and preparation.

God is in the business of working through his people to accomplish the seemingly impossible. God shapes people with personality characteristics, experiences, and training that prepare them for his purpose, and usually the people have no idea what God has in store for them.

God prepared Nehemiah to accomplish one of the Bible's impossible tasks. He was a common man in a unique position. He had little power, but he had great influence and was trusted by the king. He was also a man of God concerned about the fate of Jerusalem. From the beginning to the end Nehemiah prayed for God's help. He never hesitated to ask God to remember him. In closing his writing in Nehemiah 13:31b he says remember me, O my God, for good.

I often use the thought of "little is much when God is in it." You may not feel you have any unique abilities but there are two ways you can persever and become useful to God. First talk to God, tell him your heart, your dreams, your desires. Second, be a person that not only talks to God but walks with him daily. Then, put what you learn from God and his word into action as you glorify God in all you do. Who knows the next impossible mission from God may be entrusted to you. Just remember that you need to acknowledge him in all yours ways and thereby he will direct your path.

(Some thoughts are from the Tyndale Life Application Commentary.)

1John 1:9 "If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
