 HER FIRSTBORN SON
#71811302011

“It isn’t our birthday, is it? It’s the Lord’s birthday and it’s a time to remember His birth and what it is supposed to mean to us.” Melvin Newland
7And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
8And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
It is amazing that God chose to use shepherds to announce the birth of Jesus. They were not in the upper class you might say in fact they were on the opposite end. He chose the lowly things and the despised to usher in this great moment. He also went to an insignificant village and found a peasant girl who was pure to be the mother of His only begotten son.
Did you know he still makes his announcement to you today. “Unto you a Savior is born.” God wants you to know that life matters and that you count with him. It is impossible to live and not influence someone either good or for bad. Our lives and those of shepherds and Kings are important to God. Our faith matters and we need to remember he’s not a baby anymore; he is sitting on the right hand of God waiting to come again like he said he would do.
Keep your faith, do all your hands find to do with all your might and celebrate not only his birth but his resurrection and keep your eyes toward the Eastern sky for as sure as he made this announcement to the shepherds He is coming again to gather those who are faithful. No one knows but this could be the season and the time he takes us home. “Oh! What a day that will be.”
REMEMBER

“If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1John 1:9

THANK YOU LORD!

What more can one say? Thank you Lord, Thank you Lord, Thank you Lord. This is what is on my mind as I face another Thanksgiving Day. God has bestowed his blessings upon me yet another year and I am most thankful.

Many things have come my way this year. My mother lay helpless for months before God took her home, my son’s illness brought him close to death twice, my wife has struggled with her ankle injury since April, we lost our doggy Tucker, we lost several family members and friends, we faced four tornados’ in our community and on and on I could go.

Through it all, God sustained us and continues to provide for our daily needs. Thank you Lord, Thank you Lord, Thank you Lord. Without God I would not have the joy and contentment I have today. Yes, we hurt, yes we are sad, but God is so real that it makes it bearable as we continue our journey.

Lord, thank you for life, health, and strength for today, thank you for Salvation, thank you for the hope of eternal life. This short journey here on earth is just a small span of time compared to the eons and eons of time we will spend with you in heaven.

Yes, I’m crazy I guess but as I thought on the goodness of God I found myself praying once again, Good Morning Lord, good morning, dad and mom, and dad-in-law, and mother-in-law, and Mr B and others that are in glory. It is so refreshing to remember them and know they are rejoicing in the Lord. I know everyone has their own idea about some of these things but this is my story and I’m sticking to it.

It just makes me want to sing “Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so, little ones to him belong, they are weak but He is strong, Yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me, yes Jesus loves me for the Bible tells me so.

What is your story today? Do you love Jesus? If you do you can understand how I feel and how I am able to rejoice. If you don’t know Jesus, today is the best time to repent of your sins, ask forgiveness, and receive Jesus. Join me this Thanksgiving Day in knowing Jesus as your Lord and Savior and soon coming King. Oh!”

What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see and I look upon his face the one who saved me by his grace.”

Again, I say Thank you Lord, Thank you Lord, Thank you Lord. Have a good day and remember Jesus is the sweetest name I know and he is just the same as his holy name, that’s the reason why I love him so, for Jesus is the sweetest name I know.

REMEMBER

MY GOD IS REAL

In this Thanksgiving season this song “My God Is Real” has been on my heart all week. I posted a verse on Facebook and was amazed at the response and the thoughts of several of you.

Let’s take a look at it. Many individuals and groups blessed us as they sang it over the years but my uncle Wilbur always sticks in my mind as he use to sing it when we were young. I’m glad it still rings in my heart and mind and feeds me with God’s love.

There are some things I may not know
There are some places I can't go
But I am sure of this one thing
That God is real for I can feel him deep within

My God is real real in my soul
My God is real for he has washed and made me whole
His love for me is like pure gold
My God is real for I can feel him deep in my soul

I cannot tell just how you felt
When Jesus took your sins away
But since that day yes since that hour
God has been real for I can feel his holy power

My God is real real in my soul
My God is real for he has washed and made me whole
His love for me is like pure gold
My God is real for I can feel him deep in my soul

What a wonderful Thanksgiving thought to know God is real in my soul. Celebrate with me as we give thanks and praise to God.

THANKSGIVING LIST #71511132011

THANKSGIVING LIST

I have people asking for a Christmas list and I’m thankful but no one has asked me for a Thanksgiving list. Amazing, Christmas is just weeks away and our gift list tends to be more important than a Thanksgiving list for all God has done.

Do you have a Thanksgiving list? As we go into this festive month of sharing time with family and eating too much; I want to take time to thank God for what he has done for me this year.

This time last year I never knew all the things that would come my way. I am thankful I didn’t know because God knew when he would have me prepared for each event. I am going to mention some of the events not as a gloom and doom thing but to let you know God always gives us “enough” to meet the things that come our way.

Things that came along:

My mother had a massive stroke December 16, 2010 two days short of her 89th birthday. This led to her going to heaven May 29, 2011. I’m thankful two hours before I was talking to her and enjoying my regular conversations with her. I’m thankful God took her home so she would not suffer anymore and could rejoice with Jesus. She loved the Lord and had a great testimony of his love.

Lost our little dog Tucker on Valentine Day, we were half way to see my mom in Ohio when the call came and it broke our heart but I’m thankful for the short life we had with him.

My son has been at the point of death twice this year. He was in the hospital over a week each time. God has blessed us to still have him and I appreciate the Lord for his mercy.

My daughter faithfully sings for us each Sunday at our church and I thank God she allows the Spirit of God to feed us with words of love and encouragement.

My wife, bless her heart continues to find ways to break bones. This year she broke her arm in the doctor’s office and her ankle was shattered trying to tend to her new dog. She continues to struggle with her ankle but she says I’m not going to quit. This lady came to church by sliding down the steps at our home so she could play the music and teach her class. When she came home she crawled up the steps. I’m thankful she loves us enough to want to bless us. Most folks stay at home over a whole lot less. She’s a trooper.

My Uncle mom’s youngest brother; the one in perfect health died on Labor Day, he got up to walk down the lane at his home like he always does but when his precious wife found him he was gone. He was a blessing to many and we are happy for him but sad he’s not with us today.

Like you I could go on and on, there is so much I’m thankful for this year. How could I forget the four tornados’ that destroyed hundreds of homes in our town killing nine and injuring many? These destructive winds brushed up against my daughter’s home, barely touched my sons home and missed us by six houses. We had to replace the roof on my son’s home and our home and my daughter is still in need of clean up from trees that fell around her but we are alive and well. Thank you Jesus!

What are you thankful for this year? “Count your blessings name them one by one see what God hath done.” You will be surprised just what God hath done. Have a thankful month and remember to thank Jesus for all he hath done.

REMEMBER

“If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1John 1:9

MY VETERANS DAY HERO #71411062011

MY VETERANS DAY HERO

My hero sits among us today. On April 24th 1965 she married a skinny 163lb kid from Mansfield, Ohio. In May 1966 she saw him off as he rode a bus to Columbus, Ohio on his way to Ft Knox Kentucky for boot camp. She and her mom drove thru the mountains to visit me and only the Lord knows how they made it because neither one had a sense of direction.

After I stayed for Advanced Training at Ft Knox; I called and told her I was being sent to Germany. The next day I found out that was changed to Vietnam. I didn’t have the heart to tell her over the phone so I waited to tell her in person. She didn’t believe me but when it finally sunk in, we were up the rest of the night with her crying.

She saw me off at the Chattanooga airport. I had never flown and the stewardesses ask me what was wrong. She told the pilot and he gave us another 15 minutes and said he would make it up in flight. That was a special moment for us. I’m still thankful today.

I was sent to Ft Dix New Jersey to catch a flight to Vietnam. Out over the Rockies our plane took a big dip falling several feet, I remember praying Lord I’m on my way to Vietnam don’t kill me before I get there. Little did I know it was just an air pocket and everything was alright?

While refueling in Los Angeles CA, I was able to get a phone booth and call my lovely wife. Then we were off to Hawaii to refuel again where I got in my last conversation with her. There were no cell phones or Skye or etc. You were just gone.

However, my faithful wife sent me a letter every day. And to top it off she sent me real to real tapes from what I remember over 100 of them to stay in touch.

Now folks this is my hero, she worked and kept the home front going but spent hours and hours communicating with me.

After nine months we met on R&R in Hawaii. This was our first time to speak and the last until I returned home in three months.

So what is Veteran’s Day all about? For this soldier it’s having my own hero still with me after 46 years of marriage. Thank you Mavis Edwina (Rominger) Dasher for always being there for me. You are my HERO.

God blessed me with a jewel and I treasure it more and more each day.
