I Am A Soldier In The Army Of The Lord #490

I AM A SOLDIER IN THE ARMY OF THE LORD!
I am a Soldier-Ranger in the army of my God.
The Lord Jesus Christ is my commanding officer.
The Holy Bible is my code of conduct.
Faith, prayer, and the Word are my weapons of warfare.
I have been taught by the Holy Spirit, trained by experience,
Tried by adversity, and tested by fire.
I am a volunteer in this army, and I am enlisted for eternity.
I will either retire in this army at the Rapture or die in this army;

but I will not get out, sell out, be talked out, or pushed out.
I am faithful, reliable, capable and dependable.

If my God needs me, I am there.
If He needs me in the Sunday school, to teach the children, work with the youth, help adults or just sit and learn, He can use me because I am there!
I am a Soldier.

I am not a baby.
I do not need to be pampered, petted, primed up, pumped up, picked up or pepped up.
I am a soldier.

No one has to call me, remind me, write me, visit me, entice me, or lure me.
I am a Soldier.

I am not a wimp.
I am in place, saluting my King, obeying His orders, praising His name, and building His kingdom!
No one has to send me flowers, gifts, food, cards, candy or give me handouts.
I do not need to be cuddled, cradled, cared for, or catered to.

I am committed.
I cannot have my feelings hurt bad enough to turn me around.
I cannot be discouraged enough to turn me aside.

I cannot lose enough to cause me to quit.
When Jesus called me into this army, I had nothing.
If I end up with nothing, I will still come out ahead.
Because I have Him, I will win.
My God has, and will continue to supply all of my needs.
I am more than a conqueror. I will always triumph.
I can do all things through Christ.
Devils cannot defeat me.
People cannot disillusion me.
Weather cannot weary me.
Sickness cannot stop me.
Battles cannot beat me.
Money cannot buy me.
Governments cannot silence me and hell cannot handle me.
I am a Soldier.
Even death cannot destroy me.
For when my commander calls me from this battlefield,
He will promote me to Captain and then allow me to rule with Him.
I am a Soldier in the army, and I'm marching, claiming victory!
I will not give up.
I will not turn around.
I am a Soldier, marching heaven bound.
Here I stand!
Will you stand with me?
Guess what?

The question is, which part of the service are you in:

1. Active Duty: Serving the Lord faithfully, daily, and on duty 24-7?
2. Reserve status: Serving only when called upon or twice a year, Christmasand Easter? 3. Guard status: Backing up the Active Duty group?

Why Do The Righteous Suffer #489

WHY DO THE RIGHTEOUS SUFFER?
(Notes from the Life Application Bible, Tyndale)

The book of Job is a good example that demonstrates God’s sovereignty and the meaning of true faith. It addresses the question, “Why do the righteous suffer?”

Job 2:3 And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? And still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause. (KJV)

Through no fault of his own, Job lost his wealth, children, and health. Even his friends were convinced that Job had brought this suffering upon himself. For Job, the greatest trial was not the pain or the loss; it was not being able to understand why God allowed him to suffer.

Suffering can be, but is not always, a penalty for sin. In the same way, prosperity is not always a reward for being good. Those who love God are not exempt from trouble. Although we may not be able to understand fully the pain we experience, it can lead us to rediscover God.

Satan attempted to drive a wedge between Job and God by getting Job to believe that God’s governing of the world was not just and good. Satan had to ask God for permission to take Job’s wealth, children, and health away. Satan was limited to what God allowed.

We must learn to recognize and not fear Satan’s attacks because Satan cannot exceed the limits that God sets. Don’t let any experience drive a wedge between you and God. Although you can’t control how Satan may attack, you can always choose how you will respond when it happens.

God is an all wise and all powerful. His will is perfect, yet he doesn’t always act in ways that we understand. Job’s suffering didn’t make sense because everyone believed good people were supposed to prosper. When Job was at the point of despair, God spoke to him, showing him his great power and wisdom.

Although God is present everywhere, at times he may seem far away. This may cause us to feel alone and to doubt his care for us. We should serve God for who he is, not what we feel. He is never insensitive to our suffering. Because God is sufficient, we must hold on to him.

Job’s friends were certain that they were correct in their judgment of him. God rebuked them for their pride and arrogance. Man’s wisdom is always partial and temporary, so undue pride in our own conclusions is sin.

We must be careful not to judge others who are suffering. We may be demonstrating the sin of pride. We must be cautious in maintaining the certainty of our own conclusions about how God treats us. When we congratulate ourselves for being right, we become proud.

God alone knew the purpose behind Job’s suffering, and yet he never explained it to Job. In spite of this, Job never gave up on God even in the midst of suffering. He never placed his hope in his experience, his wisdom, his friends, or his wealth. Job focused on God.

Job showed the kind of trust we are to have. When everything is stripped away, we are to recognize that God is all we ever really had. We should not demand that God explain everything. God gives us himself, but not all the details of his plans. We must remember that this life, with all its pain is not our final destiny.

Some days it makes you want to sing “How far is Heaven, when can I go…” Stay focused on God and he will lead you, guide you, and direct you into all truth. I want to make heaven, how about you?

Things You Don't Hear Any More #488

On the lighter side this week, if you are under 40 you may be bored and not know any of this but if you are over 60 you will understand. Have a great week in Jesus and remember He loves you and He cares.

THINGS YOU DON'T HEAR ANY MORE!!


Be sure and refill the ice trays, we are going to have company after awhile.

Watch for the postman, I want to get this letter in the mail today.

Quit slamming that screen door!

Be sure to pull the windows down when you leave, it looks like it might shower -- and bring in the clothes on the line, too.

Don't forget to wind the clock before you go to bed.

Why can't you remember to roll up your pants legs?

Getting them caught in the bicycle chain so many times is tearing them up.

You have torn the knees out of that pair of pants so many times there is nothing left to put a patch on.
Don't you go outside with your good school clothes on!

Hang up your Sunday School clothes, you know you need to pass them down to your brother in good condition.

Go comb your hair. It looks like the rats have nested in it all night.

Be sure and pour the cream off the top of the milk when you open the new bottle. I need it for baking and Pa's coffee.

Take that empty bottle to the store with you so you won't have to pay a deposit on another one.

Put a dish towel over the cake so the flies won't get on it.

Quit jumping on the floor! I have a cake in the oven and you are going to make it fall if you don't quit!

Let me know when the Fuller Brush man comes by, I need to get a few things from him.

You boys stay close by, the car may not start and I will need you to help push it off.

There is a dollar in my purse, go by the filling station and get five gallons of gas when you start to town.

Open the back door and see if we can get a breeze through here, it is getting hot.

You can walk to the store; it won't hurt you to get some exercise.

Maybe you will learn to be more careful with your bicycle.

Don't sit too close to the TV it is hard on your eyes.

If you pull that stunt again, I am going to wear you out!

Don't lose that button; I will sew it back on after while.

Wash under your neck before you come to the table, you have beads of dirt and sweat all under there.

Get out from under that sewing machine, pumping it messes up the thread!
Do you want to go get me a switch?

Be sure and fill the lamps this morning so we don't have to do that tonight in the dark.

Here, take this old magazine to the outhouse when you go, we are almost out of paper out there.

Go out to the well and draw a bucket of water for me to wash dishes in.

Don't turn the radio on now; I want the battery to be up when the Grand Ole Opry comes on.

No! I don't have five cents for you to go to the show; do you think money grows on trees?

Eat those vegetables; they will make you big and strong like your daddy.

That dog is NOT coming in this house! I don't care how cold it is out there, dogs just don't come in the house.

Sit still! I am trying to get your hair cut straight and you keep moving and it is getting botched up.

Hush your mouth! I don't want to hear words like that. I will wash your mouth out with soap again!

It is time for your system to be cleaned out; I'm going to give you a dose of Castor Oil in the morning.

If you get a spanking in school and I find out about it, you will get another one when you get home.

Quit crossing your eyes! They will get hung that way!

Soak your foot in this pan of coal oil so that cut won't get infected.

When you take your driving test don't forget your hand signals each turn. Left arm straight out the window for a left turn and left arm bent up to the sky at the elbow for a right turn and straight down to the side of the door when you are going to stop.

It is "Yes, sir!" and "No, sir" to me and your elders young man, and don't you forget it!

While we are at Aunt Mary's and Uncle John's you kids eat when the adults get though and I don't want to hear "I don't like this stuff".

You better keep your mouth shut and eat everything on your plate.

Well, that ought to keep us remembering some of the finer things of the past, some good and some not so good, and young man if I hear you repeat one word of this I will beat the daylights out of you, do you understand that?

Do You Realize How Great God Is?

Wow! As I arose this morning I was thinking of God and how great he is? I felt like sharing this with my pastor (My State Bishop), and then I thought this is a good time for each of you to take a moment and ponder this thought. So, stop what you are doing. Now, allow God’s presence to flow through your veins and give you a transfusion that will invigorate you. Oh! It is so good to feel the presence of God in our life right now.

Don’t leave me; continue to ponder on the goodness of God. Take time for you and God this moment and I promise you you’re day will be enriched with his love.

Have you ever said, “This has been a week!” A lot has gone on and I feel it’s just time to say goodbye world, its time for me and God to be alone. Take time to talk to God, take time to listen and receive food from him.

This morning I arose, took mail to the mail box (a bill to pay you know), let the dog out, watered my tomato plants and thought of all that’s happened this week.

School is back in full session, a dear friend I use to pastor went home with Jesus, a friend’s son died, everyone’s busy, etc. You know the story because you have one to tell too. Too heavy a load for many of you and this is why I just want you to take time for you and God and let his peace speak to you.

Do you remember the song “Jesus is the one, yes he’s the only one, let him have his way until the day is done, when he speaks you know the clouds will have to go, just because he loves you so.” This came to my mind as I wrote my friend that lost his wife this week and I pondered my friend’s loss of their son. None of us know about tomorrow so take time for today. I hope you did it as you read this today.

In closing, I would like to share an old writing that someone sent me this morning that I hope will help you. It is called “Love Ya!”

LOVE YA!

One day a woman's husband died, and on that clear, cold morning, in the warmth of their bedroom, the wife was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't anymore. No more hugs, no more special moments to celebrate together, no more phone calls just to chat, no more "just one minute."


Sometimes, what we care about the most gets all used up and goes away, never to return before we can say good-bye, say "I love you."So while we have it, its best we love it, care for it, fix it when it's broken and heal it when it's sick. This is true for marriage ... and old cars… and children with bad report cards, and dogs with bad hips, and aging parents and grandparents. We keep them because they are worth it, because we are worth it.

Some things we keep -- like a best friend who moved away or a classmate we grew up with. There are just some things that make us happy, no matter what. Life is important, like people we know who are special, and so, we keep them close!

I received this from someone who thought I was a 'keeper'! Then I sent it to the people I think of in the same way.

Now it's your turn to send this to all those people who are "keepers" in your life, including the person who sent it if you feel that way.

Suppose one morning you never wake up, do all your friends know you love them?I was thinking, I could die today, tomorrow or next week, and I wondered if I had any wounds needing to be healed, friendships that needed rekindling, or three words needing to be said.

Let every one of your friends know you love them. Even if you think they don't love you back, you would be amazed at what those three little words and a smile can do.

And just in case
GOD calls me home.

A Thorny Situation #486

This is a bit long but I feel the need to share it with some of you today. God loves you and his arm is extended to you whether you are experiencing joy or suffering pain. Allow God to speak to you and receive what you need from him today in the name of Jesus I pray.

A Thorny Situation

Sandra felt as low as the heels of her shoes as she pushed against a November gust at the florist shop door. Her life had been easy, like a spring breeze. Then in the fourth month of her second pregnancy, a minor automobile accident stole her ease. During this Thanksgiving week she would have delivered a son. She grieved over her loss.

As if that weren't enough, her husband's company threatened a transfer. Then her sister, whose annual holiday visit she coveted, called saying she could not come.

What's worse, Sandra's friend infuriated her by suggesting her grief was a God-given path to maturity that would allow her to empathize with others who suffer. "She has no idea what I'm feeling," thought Sandra with a shudder. "Thanksgiving, Thankful for what?" she wondered aloud. For a careless driver whose truck was hardly scratched when he rear-ended her and for an airbag that saved her life but took that of her child?

"Good afternoon, can I help you?" The shop clerk's approach startled her.

"I...I need an arrangement, "stammered Sandra, “For Thanksgiving?"

"Do you want beautiful but ordinary, or would you like to challenge the day with a customer favorite I call the Thanksgiving Special?" asked the shop clerk. "I'm convinced that flowers tell stories," she continued. "Are you looking for something that conveys 'gratitude' this Thanksgiving?"

"Not exactly," Sandra blurted out. "In the last five months, everything that could go wrong has gone wrong." Sandra regretted her outburst, and was surprised when the shop clerk said, "I have the perfect arrangement for you."

Then the door's small bell rang, and the shop clerk said, "Hi Barbara...let me get your order." She politely excused herself and walked toward a small workroom, then quickly reappeared, carrying an arrangement of greenery, bows and long-stemmed thorny roses. Except the ends of the rose stems were neatly snipped--there were no flowers. "Want this in a box?" asked the clerk.

Sandra watched for the customer's response. Was this a joke? Who would want rose stems with no flowers?! She waited for laughter, but neither woman laughed.

"Yes, please," Barbara replied with an appreciative smile. "You'd think after three years of getting the special, I wouldn't be so moved by its significance, but I can feel it right here, all over again," she said as she gently tapped her chest.

"Uhh," stammered Sandra, "that lady just left with, uhh... she just left with no flowers!"

"Right, I cut off the flowers. That's the Special... I call it the Thanksgiving Thorns Bouquet."

"Oh, come on, you can't tell me someone is willing to pay for that?" exclaimed Sandra.

"Barbara came into the shop three years ago feeling very much like you feel today," explained the clerk. "She thought she had very little to be thankful for. She had lost her father to cancer, the family business was failing, her son was into drugs, and she was facing major surgery."

"Then that same year I lost my husband, "continued the clerk," and for the first time in my life, I had to spend the holidays alone. I had no children no husband, no family nearby, and too great a debt to allow any travel."

"So what did you do?" asked Sandra.

"I learned to be thankful for thorns," answered the clerk quietly.
"I've always thanked God for good things in life and never thought to ask Him why those good things happened to me, but when bad stuff hit, did I ever ask! It took time for me to learn that dark times are important. I always enjoyed the 'flowers' of life, but it took thorns to show me the beauty of God's comfort. You know, the Bible says that God comforts us when we're afflicted, and from His consolation we learn to comfort others."

Sandra sucked in her breath as she thought about the very thing her friend had tried to tell her. "I guess the truth is I don't want comfort.
I've lost a baby and I'm angry with God."

Just then someone else walked in the shop. "Hey, Phil!" shouted the clerk to the balding, rotund man.

"My wife sent me in to get our usual Thanksgiving arrangement... twelve thorny, long-stemmed stems!" laughed Phil as the clerk handed him a tissue-wrapped arrangement from the refrigerator.

"Those are for your wife?" asked Sandra incredulously. "Do you mind me asking why she wants something that looks like that?"

"No...I'm glad you asked," Phil replied! "Four years ago my wife and I nearly divorced. After forty years, we were in a real mess, but with the Lord's grace and guidance, we slogged through problem after problem.
He rescued our marriage. Jenny here (the clerk) told me she kept a vase of rose stems to remind her of what she learned from "thorny" times, and that was good enough for me. I took home some of those stems. My wife and I decided to label each one for a specific "problem" and give thanks to Him for what that problem taught us."

As Phil paid the clerk, he said to Sandra, "I highly recommend the Special!"

"I don't know if I can be thankful for the thorns in my life."
Sandra said to the clerk. "It's all too... fresh."

"Well," the clerk replied carefully, "my experience has shown me that thorns make roses more precious. We treasure God's providential care more during trouble than at any other time. Remember, it was a crown of thorns that Jesus wore! So we might know His love. Don't resent the thorns."

Tears rolled down Sandra's cheeks. For the first time since the accident, she loosened her grip on resentment. "I'll take those twelve long-stemmed thorns, please," she managed to choke out.
"I hoped you would," said the clerk gently. "I'll have them ready in a minute."

"Thank you. What do I owe you?" asked Sandra.

"Nothing." said the clerk; "Nothing but a promise to allow God to heal your heart. The first year's arrangement is always on me." The clerk smiled and handed a card to Sandra. "I'll attach this card to your arrangement, but maybe you'd like to read it first."

It read: "Dear God, I have never thanked you for my thorns. I have thanked you a thousand times for my roses, but never once for my thorns.
Teach me the glory of the cross I bear; teach me the value of my thorns. Show me that I have climbed closer to you along the path of pain. Show me that, through my tears, the colors of your rainbow look much more brilliant." -- Author Unknown

Praise Him for your roses; thank him for your thorns.

Let Me Tell You About Jesus #485

LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT JESUS

I just finished attending a “camp meeting” some would call it and the message that rings in my heart today is I need to tell you about Jesus. One song says “more, more about Jesus.” Another old song my brother and I use to sing, “Have I done enough for Jesus.”

Lord help this thought be on my heart and help me put into practice your word to tell precious souls about you. With each door that is open help me be sensitive to your spirit and walk in love telling each precious soul how sweet it is to know Jesus.

I have been blessed to be taught about God and I hunger and thirst to share just what Jesus means to me. I want to take the song to heart and practice it more and more as it raises another question when it says “I wonder if I have cared enough for other or have I let them die all alone.” Lord help me not just attend church, preach and teach and fail souls you entrust to me each day.

Finally, this song picks me up in the third verse when it says “No longer will I stay in this valley, I’ll climb to the mountain tops above, this world is dying for the want of someone, just to tell them of my Savior’s matchless love.”

So, I close by saying let me tell you about Jesus. If you are reading Surfing with Jesus for the first time or you have read it many times before take time to read the verse below and ask yourself if you were to die tonight, do you know for sure you would go to heaven? If your answer is yes, wonderful, if the answer is no, confess your sins and receive Jesus and allow him to cleanse you. Now get up and go share Jesus with someone else so they too can know they would rest in heaven should Jesus call them tonight?

Remember people don’t care how much you know, they just want to know how much you care.

If I Should Die #484

IF I SHOULD DIE

If I should die my body would decay and return to dust from whence it came. My soul would rest in peace with God and live on for eternity because I received forgiveness of my sins when I repented and accepted Jesus in my heart.

Did you ever pray this prayer as a child “Now, I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, if I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take?” I did and I’m so thankful I was taught about the love of Jesus by mom and dad. Truly, I am blessed to know Jesus as my Lord and Savior and soon coming King.

However, it is sad to know that millions of people are still waiting to hear about Jesus. Did you know that all souls will live on but without Jesus they will be lost and never experience peace with God? It is so sad also that millions of souls know about God and his forgiving power thru Jesus but continue to forsake this wonderful opportunity to be at peace with God. Oh, how I wish these would wake up and return unto Jesus the love he has given them.

Why does one wait? As I stated all souls will live on for eternity, only the body will decay and return to dust. I would like to shake you, awake you and make you aware or remind you that there is a heaven to gain and hell to shun. With Jesus there is life and peace. Without Him there is eternally punishment prepared for all who fail to receive Him as their Lord and Master.

You have a choice to make that will determine where you spend eternity. Accept Jesus or reject him. With Jesus you have hope of eternal live in heaven rejoicing around the throne of God. Without Jesus you will join Satan and his angels in hell for eternity where there is no hope.

Heaven will be worth it all when you see Jesus and all those that have made the choice to be with him. I pray your choice is Jesus and that you rest in peace with God today.

What Is On My Heart

Jesus is the sweetest name I know. Having completed another year on life’s journey and celebrated another birthday this week and been called an “old man” by my lovely wife, Jesus is still the sweetest name I know.

What a treat as I arrived at church Sunday and a young man met me and said pastor there is something on the pulpit for you. After getting settle and going to the podium I found a real nice hand made birthday card. It said “Happy Birthday Gene, You’re a Super Hero.” From your side kick Jon. Inside it had a drawing of a Super Hero.

How special, I was so thrilled to have someone look at me as a Super Hero. We continued with Sunday School and as I went to start Morning worship a young lady said pastor, you can sit back down, this is your day, we have prepared singing, preaching, and a meal in honor of you.

Wow! What a surprise, I put my bible down, sit down, and enjoy the day. I cried as our youth choir sang because this time last year we had no one to be in this precious choir.

Yes, Jesus is the sweetest name I know, it is special when our church family takes time to lift you up. The guest speaker was my brother who moved to our area a year ago whom I haven’t heard preach in years.

My birthday was actually Monday and I had another annual treat for my family to get together and take me out to eat. We also had a good time.
I do appreciate the Lord, my family, and friends. Last Friday I spoke to my precious mom and told her I received a surprise in the mail. I received a birthday card from her early. This is a family funny, my mom always gets us a card but sometimes she will tell me later she forgot to put it in the mail.

Mom always says God has been so good to us. I’m thankful I have been taught to love God, fear God, and desire to do his will in my life. Yes, there is something about that name Jesus. It is the sweetest name I know and he’s just the same as his lovely name, that’s the reason, why I love him so for Jesus is the sweetest name I know

And that’s my heart today.

It was written by an 8-year-old named Danny Dutton, who lives in Chula Vista, CA. He wrote it for his third grade homework assignment, to "explain God." I wonder if any of us could have done as well.

EXPLANATION OF GOD

"One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the ones that die, so there will be enough people to take care of things on earth. He doesn't make grownups, just babies. I think because they are smaller and easier to make. That way he doesn't have to take up his valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that to mothers and fathers."

"God's second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times beside bedtime. God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or TV because of this. Because he hears everything, there must be a terrible lot of noise in his ears, unless he has thought of a way to turn it off."

"God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere which keeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn't go wasting his time by going over your mom and dad's head asking for something they said you couldn't have."

"Atheists are people who don't believe in God. I don't think there are any in Chula Vista. At least there aren't any who come to our church."

"Jesus is God's Son. He used to do all the hard work, like walking on water and performing miracles and trying to teach the people who didn't want to learn about God. They finally got tired of him preaching to them and they crucified him but he was good and kind, like his father, and he told his father that they didn't know what they were doing and to forgive them and God said O.K."

"His dad (God) appreciated everything that he had done and all his hard work on earth so he told him he didn't have to go out on the road anymore. He could stay in heaven. So he did. And now he helps his dad out by listening to prayers and seeing things which are important for God to take care of and which ones he can take care of himself without having to bother God. Like a secretary, only more important."

"You can pray anytime you want and they are sure to help you because they got it worked out so one of them is on duty all the time."

"You should always go to church on Sunday because it makes God happy, and if there's anybody you want to make happy, it's God!

Don't skip church to do something you think will be more fun like going to the beach. This is wrong and besides the sun doesn't come out at the beach until noon anyway."

"If you don't believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will be very lonely, because your parents can't go everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can. It is good to know He's around you when you're scared, in the dark or when you can't swim and you get thrown into real deep water by big kids."

"But you shouldn't just always think of what God can do for you. I figure God put me here and he can take me back anytime he pleases.

And...that's why I believe in God."

A NATION BLESSED BY GOD

Throughout the history of man Nation’s have risen and fell. I am thankful I am blessed to arise today in a country that is blessed by God that has been allowed to still stand.

As we celebrate another year of freedom on this July 4th may we remember what we have stood for and how God allowed us to still stand as a Nation with the freedoms we enjoy each day.

Our founding father’s knew and practiced the key that is necessary yet today for any nation to stand; “Remember the Lord thy God thy creator.”

Can you still quote the purpose of our nation as we sought God for direction for a new nation over 200 years ago?

Preamble
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Our father’s had a longing to have these freedoms and many gave their life for it. We still have men and women serving our nation today that put everything on the line to ensure you and I sustain this freedom. As you arise this morning would you join me in thanksgiving, praise, and prayer for those who are serving us throughout the world? Many are in harms way and some will give their life for the blessings you enjoy this day.

I pray our nation will take time to remember the Lord God our creator. It doesn’t matter how great a nation becomes a nation that forgets God will fall. Psalms 33:12a “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord…” There are many examples in the Bible of the rise and fall of nations. No nation is exempt from the laws of God. When a nation forgets God they will lose God’s favor and blessings. When a nation returns to God they will find favor from a merciful God. I pray as a nation we remember these accounts and seek the Lord our God while we may find him. The Psalmist says in Psalm 100:3 “… it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves.”

I will close with a call to praise the Lord with Psalm 100 which is a psalm of praise.

“Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.”

All nations and all people are precious in the sight of God, regardless of the birth date of your nation remember the Lord thy God thy creator and be blessed of Him as you worship him each day.

I WANT A DIVORCE

When I got home that night as my wife served dinner, I held her hand and said I've got something to tell you.

She sat down and ate quietly. Again I observed the hurt in her eyes. Suddenly I didn't know how to open my mouth. But I had to let her know what I was thinking.

"I want a divorce!" I raised the topic calmly.

She didn't seem to be annoyed by my words, instead she asked me softly, "Why"? I avoided her question.

This made her angry. She threw away the chopsticks and shouted at me, you are not a man!

That night, we didn't talk to each other. She was weeping. I knew she wanted to find out what had happened to our marriage. But I could hardly give her a satisfactory answer; she had lost my heart to a lovely girl called Dew. I didn't love her anymore. I just pitied her!

With a deep sense of guilt, I drafted a divorce agreement which stated that she could own our house, our car, and 30% stake of my company. She glanced at it and then tore it into pieces. The woman who had spent ten years of her life with me had become a stranger. I felt sorry for her wasted time, resources and energy but I could not take back what I had said for I loved Dew so dearly.

Finally she cried loudly in front of me, which was what I had expected to see. To me her cry was actually a kind of release. The idea of divorce which had obsessed me for several weeks seemed to be firmer and clearer now.

The next day, I came back home very late and found her writing something at the table. I didn't have supper but went straight to sleep and fell asleep very fast because I was tired after an eventful day with Dew.

When I woke up, she was still there at the table writing. I just did not care so I turned over and was asleep again.

In the morning she presented her divorce conditions: she didn't want anything from me, but needed a month's notice before the divorce. She requested that in that one month we both struggle to live as normal a life as possible. Her reasons were simple: our son had his exams in a months time and she didn't want to disrupt him with our broken marriage.

This was agreeable to me. But she had something more, she asked me to recall how I had carried her into out bridal room on our wedding day. She requested that everyday for the month's duration I carry her out of our bedroom to the front door every morning. I thought she was going crazy. Just to make our last days together bearable I accepted her odd request.

I told Dew about my wife's divorce conditions. She laughed loudly and thought it was absurd. No matter what tricks she applies, she has to face the divorce, she said scornfully.

My wife and I hadn't had any body contact since my divorce intention was explicitly expressed. So when I carried her out on the first day, we both appeared clumsy. Our son clapped behind us, daddy is holding mummy in his arms. His words brought me a sense of pain. From the bedroom to the sitting room, then to the door, I walked over ten meters with her in my arms. She closed her eyes and said softly; don't tell our son about the divorce. I nodded, feeling somewhat upset. I put her down outside the door. She went to wait for the bus to go to work. I drove alone to the office.

On the second day, both of us acted much more easily. She leaned on my chest.. I could smell the fragrance of her blouse. I realized that I hadn't looked at this woman carefully for a long time. I realized she was not young any more. There were fine wrinkles on her face, her hair was graying! Our marriage had taken its toll on her. For a minute I wondered what I had done to her.

On the fourth day, when I lifted her up, I felt a sense of intimacy returning. This was the woman who had given ten years of her life to me. On the fifth and sixth day, I realized that our sense of intimacy was growing again. I didn't tell Dew about this. It became easier to carry her as the month slipped by. Perhaps the everyday work-out made me stronger.

She was choosing what to wear one morning. She tried on quite a few dresses but could not find a suitable one. Then she sighed, all my dresses have grown bigger. I suddenly realized that she had grown so thin, that was the reason why I could carry her more easily. Suddenly it hit me. She had buried so much pain and bitterness in her heart. Subconsciously I reached out and touched her head.

Our son came in at the moment and said, Dad, it's time to carry mum out. To him, seeing his father carrying his mother out had become an essential part of his life. My wife gestured to our son to come closer and hugged him tightly. I turned my face away because I was afraid I might change my mind at this last minute. I then held her in my arms, walking from the bedroom, through the sitting room, to the hallway. Her hand surrounded my neck softly and naturally. I held her body tightly; it was just like our wedding day. But her much lighter weight made me sad. On the last day, when I held her in my arms I could hardly move a step. Our son had gone to school. I held her tightly and said, I hadn't noticed that our life lacked intimacy.

I drove to office... jumped out of the car swiftly without locking the door. I was afraid any delay would make me change my mind... I walked upstairs. Dew opened the door and I said to her, Sorry, Dew, I do not want the divorce anymore.

She looked at me, astonished, and then touched my forehead. Do you have a fever? She said. I moved her hand off my head. Sorry, Dew, I said, I won't a divorce. My marriage life was boring probably because she and I didn't value the details of our lives, not because we didn't love each other any more. Now I realize that since I carried her into my home on our wedding day I am supposed to hold her until death do us apart. Dew seemed to suddenly wake up. She gave me a loud slap and then slammed the door and burst into tears. I walked downstairs and drove away.

At the floral shop on the way, I ordered a bouquet of flowers for my wife. The salesgirl asked me what to write on the card. I smiled and wrote, I'll carry you out every morning until death do us apart.

The small details of your lives are what really matter in a relationship. It is not the mansion, the car, property, the money in the bank, blah...blah...blah. These create an environment conducive for happiness but cannot give happiness in themselves. So find time to be your spouse's friend and do those little things for each other that build intimacy. Do have a real happy marriage!

BEST GIFTS FOR FATHER'S DAY

As I was pondering what to write for Father's Day I began to think of gifts for this special day. I'm always asked "What do you want for Father's Day?"

Well, I have decided that the best gift I could give my dad for Father's Day is to be in church and worship the Lord Jesus Christ. Although my dad has been gone 22 years I know this is what would please him the most.

Now as I think on it this is exactly the best gift my son and daughter could give me, get up, get ready, go to church and worship our Heavenly Father in spirit and truth. Wow! This is exciting, I think I will do this and receive food for my soul from the Lord.

I guess I'm a little crazy today but without Jesus there is no real Father's Day to me. I'm so thankful my Heavenly Father gave us His son who willing died on the cross for our Salvation. If my Heavenly Father loved me enough to give his only son for me to have hope of eternal life with him my time spent in worshipping Him is a small thing to give on this day.

I don't look at this as a sad day as some who have lost their dad. I look at it as a glorious time as I ponder my precious father and father-in-law rejoicing around the throne of God. What a legacy these two left me to hunger and thirst after the righteousness of God and seek him with all my heart. One of these days, my journey will be completed here on earth and I too will have a Happy Father's Day with Jesus and those gone on before me.

I love my earthly father more and more today because of the values and faith in God he passed on to me. And, it goes without saying I know I love my Heavenly Father more each day as I grow in him. It does get sweeter as the days go by.

If you still have an earthly father, take time to honor him today, if your dad is gone pick out someone else and honor them on this special day. Every time you take time to love and honor your dad or an adopted dad for the day you will receive more from them than you give.

Have a wonderful time of fellowship this day, remember the Lord, your Heavenly Father, and creator and be blessed today

Who I Am Makes A Difference #477

WHO I AM MAKES A DIFFERENCE

A teacher in New York decided to honor each of her seniors in High School by telling them the difference each of them had made. She called each student to the front of the class, one at a time.

First, she told each of them how they had made a difference to her, and the class. Then she presented each of them with a blue ribbon, imprinted with gold letters, which read, "Who I Am Makes a Difference."

Afterwards, the teacher decided to do a class project, to see what kind of impact recognition would have on a Community. She gave each of the students three more blue ribbons, and instructed them to go out and spread this acknowledgment ceremony.

Then they were to follow up on the results, see who honored whom, and report to the class in about a week.

One of the boys in the class went to a junior executive in a nearby Company, and honored him for helping him with his career planning. He gave him a blue ribbon, and put it on his shirt.

Then he gave him two extra ribbons and said, "We're doing a class project on recognition, and we'd like for you to go out, find somebody to honor, give them a blue ribbon, then give them the extra blue ribbon so they can acknowledge a third person, to keep this acknowledgment ceremony going. Then please report back to me and tell me what happened."

Later that day, the junior executive went in to see his boss, who had been noted, by the way, as being kind of a grouchy fellow. He sat his boss down, and he told him that he deeply admired him for being a creative genius. The boss seemed very surprised. The junior executive asked him if he would accept the gift of the blue ribbon, and would he give him permission to put it on him. His surprised boss said, "Well, sure." The junior executive took the blue ribbon and placed it right on his boss's jacket, above his heart. As he gave him the last extra ribbon, he said, "Would you take this extra ribbon, and pass it on by honoring somebody else. The young boy who first gave me the ribbons is doing a project in school, and we want to keep this recognition ceremony going and find out how it affects people."

That night, the boss came home to his 14-year-old son, and sat him down. He said, "The most incredible thing happened to me today. I was in my office, and one of the junior executives came in and told me he admired me, and gave me a blue ribbon for being a creative genius. Imagine! He thinks I am a creative genius! Then he put a blue ribbon that says, "Who I Am Makes a Difference", on my jacket above my heart. He gave me an extra rib bon and asked me to find somebody else to honor. As I was driving home tonight, I started thinking about whom I would honor with this ribbon, and I thought about you. I want to honor you. My days are hectic and when I come home, I do not pay a lot of attention to you. Sometimes I scream at you for not getting good enough grades in school, and for your bedroom being a mess. Somehow, tonight, I just wanted to sit here and, well, just let you know that you do make a difference to me. Besides your mother, you are the most important person in my life. You're a great kid, and I love you!"

The startled boy started to sob and sob, and he could not stop crying His whole body shook. He looked up at his father and said through his tears,

" Dad , earlier tonight I sat in my room and wrote a letter to you and Mom , explaining why I had taken my own life, and I asked you to forgive me. I was going to commit suicide tonight after you were asleep.

I just did not think that you cared at all. The letter is upstairs. I don't think I need it after all."

His father walked upstairs and found a heartfelt letter full of anguish and pain.

The boss went back to work a changed man. He was no longer a grouch, but made sure to let all of his employees know that they made a difference.

The junior executive helped other young people with career planning, and never forgot to let them know that they made a difference in his life...one being the boss' son. In addition, the young boy and his classmates learned a valuable lesson, "Who you are DOES make a difference".

You are under no obligation to pass this on to anyone.... not to two people, or to two hundred. As far as I am concerned, you can forget it and move on. On the other hand, if you want, you could send it to all of the people who mean something to you, or send it to the one, two, or three people who mean the most.

On the other hand, just smile and know that I think that you are important, or you would not have received this in the first place. Who you are does make a difference, and I wanted you to know that.

Isn't this a wonderful story? I'm passing the blue ribbon to you, for who YOU are does make a difference, too.

The Perfect Mistake #476

THE PERFECT MISTAKE

Grandpa Nybakken loved life, especially when he could play a trick on somebody. At those times, his large Norwegian frame shook with laughter while he feigned innocent surprise, exclaiming, “Oh, forevermore!” But on a cold Saturday in downtown Chicago, Grandpa felt that God played a trick on him, and Grandpa wasn’t laughing.

Mother’s father worked as a carpenter. On this particular day, he was building some crates for the clothes his church was sending to an orphanage in China. On his way home, he reached into his shirt pocket to find his glasses, but they were gone. He remembered putting them there that morning, so he drove back to the church. His search proved fruitless.

When he mentally replayed his earlier actions, he realized what happened. The glasses had slipped out of his pocket unnoticed and fallen into one of the crates, which he had nailed shut. His brand new glasses were heading for China!

The Great Depression was at its height, and Grandpa had six children. He had spent twenty dollars for those glasses that very morning.

“It’s not fair,” he told God as he drove home in frustration. “I’ve been very faithful in giving of my time and money to your work, and now this.”

Several months later, the director of the orphanage was on furlough in the United States. He wanted to visit all the churches that supported him in China, so he came to speak on Sunday night at my grandfather’s small church in Chicago. Grandpa and his family sat in their customary seats among the sparse congregation.

“But most of all,” he said, “I must thank you for the glasses you sent last year. You see, the Communists had just swept through the orphanage, destroying everything, including my glasses. I was desperate.”

“Even if I had the money, there was simply no way of replacing those glasses. Along with not being able to see well, I experienced headaches every day, so my coworkers and I were much in prayer about this. Then your crates arrived. When my staff removed the covers, they found a pair of glasses lying on top.”

The missionary paused long enough to let his words sink in. Then, still gripped with the wonder of it all, he continued, “Folks, when I tried on the glasses, it was as though they had been custom-made just for me! I want to thank you for being a part of that!”

The people listened, happy for the miraculous glasses, but the missionary surely must have confused their church with another, they thought. There were no glasses on their list of items to be sent overseas.

But sitting quietly in the back, with tears streaming down his face, an ordinary carpenter realized the Master Carpenter had used him in an extraordinary way. (Shared by one of our readers)

A Friend Is A Friend

Proverbs 18:24 “A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”

Proverb 17:17 “A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity,”

John 15:13”Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

Everyone loves to have friends. It is special when one can trust someone to be there for you. Of, course there is no one that fits this like Jesus. He is always there, he understands, and is on call 24 hours a day.

However, it is also good to have a friend as we take our journey here in this life. The writer says you must show yourself to be a friend if you want a friend. That means that whether you agree or disagree from time to time you are always there to listen and care for this one that sticks close to you.

Friends love us at all times and when good times come they are present to celebrate with us. Likewise, when bad times come our way they are first on the scene to hold our hand and encourage us to make it thru the day until light comes our way.

In our life we have had and do have friends that love and place their lives on the line today that we might enjoy the freedoms we have in our lives. Over the years many of them have bravely died in other lands fighting wars to keep war from our land.

Today, we have many such hero’s and friends standing all over the world working and dying to keep war off our soil. During this Memorial Day Weekend, I pray we will take a moment to remember all who have given some, those who have given all, and those who are giving right now so we can work and play and enjoy all that God has blessed us with.

Thank you one and all for being my friend and giving your all for me and my family today. You are not forgotten in our home and we appreciate you.

A TRULY GOOD MOM (WIFE)

Proverbs has a lot to say about women. How fitting that the book ends with a
picture of one who “excellest them all. She is a woman of strong character,
great wisdom, many skills, and great compassion. This woman is an excellent
wife and mother.

Recently it was stated in our mass media that the price of such a woman in our
world today is $138.000 a year. Men if we had to pay that I would lose my
lovely wife. This woman is a manufacturer, importer, manager, realtor, farmer,
seamstress, upholsterer, and merchant. Her strength and dignity do not come
from her amazing achievements. They are a result of her reverence for God.

Today, where physical appearance counts for so much, it may surprise you that
her appearance isn’t mentioned. Her attractiveness comes entirely from her
character. Your days are not long enough to do everything she does. See her as
an inspiration to be all you can be as a precious mother.

Give honor and praise to your mom this Mother’s Day week. If your mom is no
longer with you adopt a mom in your life and do something special for her. I
thank the Lord everyday I still have my precious God fearing, praying, lovely
mother. My wife was blessed with a wonderful mother that was my buddy for
many years before leaving us for Glory. I love you Lois Viola Dasher, and I miss
you Christine Rominger.

In closing let us take a moment in God’s word and read about a truly good mom and wife.

Proverbs 31:10-31
10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. 11 The
heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need

SLOW DOWN

"Slow down and smell the roses." people say it, write about it, and some take time to do it. Our families are entirely too busy today. Headline in an area paper this morning, "Father arrested after son dies in hot car." This father who had four kids was taking them to school and daycare and he forgot about the baby in the back seat, drove to work, went back to his car later in the day and found his baby unresponsive.

How tragic to lose your son in a hot car? Several said today "I don't see how you can forget your child." Mom worked at the same business but was unaware of the situation. In our society today with everyone busy, busy, busy, I can see how this may happen. Everyone is so caught up with doing so many things from work, church and family activities that we don't take time to enjoy each other. This is the result of having too many things to do. Now this father is in jail charged with criminally negligent homicide and aggravated child abuse and neglect.

Folks, we need to slow down and smell the roses. I'm sure many other
situations similar to this occur but when we get this busy we are too busy. We
need to take time for each other and look at the creation of God around us. I
love to listen to the birds as daylight begins. I love to watch the sun come up over the mountain as I drive to work. There are so many things we can do to
appreciate all that God has blessed us with. Look at your child, what do you
see in his eyes this morning? Read a few verses of scripture, take a deep breath, give him a smile and a hug.

God has blessed us with so much but we find ourselves so busy pursuing more and more things that we forget what we have right before us. At times like these we are forced to slow down and think about life and how important it is to appreciate every moment of each day and see how fragile life really is.

Lord, bless this family today, may it open our eyes to see how easy it is to get so caught up in our daily routine that we forget to value life until it is too late. Give strength to this family in the days ahead, love them in this time of trouble and may they know your hand is near to help them in Jesus name I pray.

Lord help all of us to slow down and smell the roses!

"SILENCE OR PRAYER?"
Mark 7:6-8
"He replied, "Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.' You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men."

As you know, Monday morning there was a terrible tragedy on the campus of Virginia Tech. It is the deadliest shooting rampage in U.S. history. Thirty two were killed and many wounded before the gunman turned the gun on himself and took his own life.

A few hours after the carnage, I was watching some of the coverage on television. The station I was watching showed the scene on the campus of Virginia Tech and then shifted to the United States House of Representatives. The speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, stood at the podium and solemnly asked for all members to rise for one minute of silence in tribute to the terrible tragedy.

Shortly following this coverage, the scene shifted to the White House where President Bush called on all Americans to pray for the families of those who had lost loved ones in this terrible attack.

Since viewing those two shots, I have been meditating on the terrible condition of our nation. We have removed God from our schools and our government. The original separation of church and state has been perverted. It had been intended by our founding fathers to prevent the government to force religion on the people. It has now been used as the rallying cry for those who want to outlaw the sincere expression of worship by citizens.

A moment of silence is not the same as a time of prayer. It might look pious and sanctimonious, but it is not prayer! That seems to be the problem of the human heart. We feel that if we go through the motions and appear to be holy, then God will be pleased with us.


Here is what God says through His prophet in Isaiah 64:6; "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away."

We need more than a moment of silence, we need hours of prayer. As individuals and as a people, we need to recognize that it is God and God alone who is able to do what we are not able to do. We need to fall on our face before the Lord of the universe and confess our sins as well as the sins of nation or nations.

God has given us a precious promise for those who call upon His name. II Chronicles 7:14; "If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." Thank you Lord! We do not deserve Your favor, but we certainly do need it!

Planting Seed #471

PLANTING SEED

I believe planting seed is necessary for you to have a crop. If you want tomatoes they don’t grow with the seed in your hand. I’ve never seen so much preaching and ministering on TV encouraging you to plant a seed by sending money to a given ministry. I enjoy good sound teaching, singing, and preaching and I have no problem supporting other ministries but I believe it should start at home.

What are you saying? I’m saying you need to return your tithes unto the Lord at your home church and support these ministries with all your heart. You need to give offerings above your tithes to your local ministries. Once you have done this look to additional ministries to plant more seed. God will bless all giving as you give it unto the Lord equally well.

It’s amazing how one can get caught up with planting seed everywhere but fail to give to their local church. It’s exciting; it makes a big splash, and makes you feel good. It’s good to croak for your own pond where you are fed each week and allow God to direct you in giving.

I had a local minister from another organization visit my church while we were in revival and ask to testify. As a courtesy I was happy to allow him to share. What he shared was truth even though it was hard for some to receive. He said” if every person who proclaims they are a Christian gave their tenth, their tithes unto the Lord each week, no minister would have to work a secular job because there would be plenty in the store house to take care of their needs.”

I looked at my church and sure enough in studying this concept I could see how I could give full service without an additional job. Wow! The bible does have the answer. Yes, I do support both my local church and ministries outside my church. I receive a big blessing from other ministries and encourage you to plant those seed but please don’t forget that charity begins at home.

My desire with this writing is to encourage you to give and plant those seed. Allow God to give you a great harvest as you give $58, $70, $77, $1000, $2000,$2007, or more but don’t get caught up in a spirit that will lead you to overlook the needs at home. Several have said recently in their programs that you are not doing this for us, we don’t need your money, we are doing this for you so you can be debt free, get a raise, increase 100 fold etc.

As we join together to reach the lost for Jesus Christ. I pray you will take Isaiah 64:8 to heart “ But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.” Allow the potter to mold you and make you after His will. Wait upon the Lord and lean not on your understanding and he will direct your path in all you’re giving.

Still He Walked #470

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon him, and by His stripes, we are healed.

Still He Walked...

He could hear the crowds screaming, "Crucify! Crucify!
"He could hear the hatred in their voices,
These were His chosen people.
He loved them,
And they were going to crucify Him.
He was beaten, bleeding and weakened.... His heart was broken,
But still He walked.
He could see the crowd as He came from the palace.
He knew each of the faces so well.
He had created them.
He knew every smile, laugh, and shed tear,
But now they were contorted with rage and anger; His heart broke....
But still He walked.
Was He scared?
You and I would have been
So His humanness would have mandated that He was. He felt alone.
His disciples had left, denied, and even betrayed Him.
He searched the crowd for a loving face and He saw very few.
Then he turned His eyes to the only One who mattered
And He knew that He would never be alone.
He looked back at the crowd, at the people who were spitting,
Throwing rocks at Him and mocking Him, and He knew
That because of Him, they would never be alone.
So for them, He walked.
The sounds of the hammer striking the spikes echoed throughThe crowd.
The sounds of His cries echoed even louder,
The cheers of the crowd, as His hands and feet
Were nailed to the cross, intensified with each blow.
Loudest of all was the still small voice inside His
Heart that whispered "I am with You, my Son",
And God's heart broke.
He had let His Son walk.
Jesus could have asked God to end His suffering,
But instead He asked God to forgive.
Not to forgive Him, but to forgive the ones who were persecuting Him.
As He hung on that cross, dying an unimaginable death,
He looked out and saw, not only the faces in the crowd,
But also, the face of every person yet to be,
And His heart filled with love.
As His body was dying, His heart was alive.
Alive with the limitless, unconditional love He feels for each of us.
That is why He walked.
When I forget how much My God loves me,
I remember His walk.
When I wonder if I can be forgiven,
I remember His walk.
When I need to be reminded of how to live like Christ,
I think of His walk.
And to show Him how much I love Him,
I wake up each morning, turn my eyes to Him,
And I walk....

COFFEE
A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together tovisit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned intocomplaints about stress in work and in life. Offering his guests coffee,the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot ofcoffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal,some plain-looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling them tohelp themselves to the coffee, and cream and sugar.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said:"If you noticed, all the nice-looking, expensive cups were taken up,leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you towant only the best for yourselves, THAT is the source of your problemsand stress. Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to thecoffee. In most cases, it is just more expensive, and in some cases evenhides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not thecup, but you consciously went for the best cups . . . And then, youbegan eyeing each other's cups."

"Now consider this: Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position insociety are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, andthe type of cup we have does not define, nor change, the quality of Lifewe live. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoythe coffee God has provided us."

"God brews the coffee, not the cups . . . Enjoy your coffee! Thehappiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make thebest of everything they have."

“ONLY THE FOOL DENIES GOD”

Yesterday I read where one of our Congressmen Rep. Pete Stark from California says he doesn’t believe in a supreme being. In a belief statement to The Associated Press he is quoted as saying he was “a Unitarian who does not believe in a supreme being.” “I look forward to working with the Secular Coalition to stop the promotion of narrow religious beliefs in science, marriage contracts, the military and the provision of social services.”

How sad it is to know someone doesn’t believe in a supreme being. I’m thankful I believe in a supreme being and I am thankful Almighty God sent his son to forgive me of my sins as I confess them to him. He is faithful to forgive me of sins and to cleanse me from all unrighteousness.

Thank you, mom, dad, family, teachers, preachers and fellow Christians for sharing the love of Jesus with me and giving me hope of eternal life as you taught me about a Supreme Being Jehovah God is his name.

Psalm 14 of David gives the best answer to those who share this belief.


1The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. 2The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. 3They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 4Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD. 5There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous. 6Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the LORD is his refuge. 7Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the LORD bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.

Tyndale notes in the Life Application Bible sums this up very good.

“A fool is not someone who is stupid or uneducated, but a person who rejects God. By rejecting God, the fool rejects the one who made the moral and spiritual laws that make life just and good. A fool is indeed corrupt, because to deny God’s existence allows wickedness to prevail. The apostle Paul quotes these verses in Romans 3:10-12 as he mourns the lack of single heartedness toward God and thus the rampant spread of evil. The wise, however, not only believe there is a God, but also strive to please him. To believe there is a God but refuse to please him is also foolish. Don’t be a fool of either sort”

It is sad that the very God our leaders from day one called upon in battle and sought for wisdom and guidance is no longer needed by some today. Yes, you have the right to proclaim your belief but I feel sorry for you when you forget God who created you. As I write my heart is broken as I pray you will return unto God, acknowledge him, ask forgives and cleansing, receive him as Lord, and take time to worship the Supreme Being who loves you even as you break his heart today.

My wife and I took our three sons to the beach this year.

I took my middle son out in the water with me as my wife played in the sand with the other two.

I picked him up as we entered waters that approached my kneecaps. I held him close to my chest because the water chilled our bones too much for either of us to hold our own body heat.

As I held him, my eyes gently rested on the endless expanse of waves that rolled along the surface ever so rhythmically.

My eyes then drifted higher to the invisible line that separates the ocean from the sky with exactness. I then beheld the beauty of the sky and everything that it contained. It seemed like time had stopped and the only two people on earth were my son John and I. At that moment, I had the realization that this would be a great time for a lesson in life.

This was John's first time in the ocean and I knew that there were certain things that even school couldn't teach him. John was only two years old, I knew his mind would be highly impressionable at this age considering his logic faculties had not been fully developed yet.

Father started with the first lesson on the beach of life.

I said John, "Do you see all of this water, who do you think created the ocean?"

Before I taught him I just wanted to see what kind of childish, cartoon minded answer he would give me. He looked out over all of the countless waves (even though countless in his little mind was anything over ten) and surveyed the landscape.

Little did I know that my two year old was about to give me an untaught answer, that half of the professors at Harvard would have disagreed with. He answered not even in his normal answering tone, where the answer comes out with such a degree of doubt that it sounds like a question. With all the force of his little lungs he shouted out three little but powerful words with such confidence that it reverberated down the beach.

"God did it."

Even though I was the teacher and had years of training through an engineering degree at one of the nation's top schools, there was no more that I could add to this preschooler's answer.

So I went on to the next question.

"John do you see that blue space above the water that we called the sky, who do you think created that."

As he looked up and again considered the vastness of the space, he again shouted out:

"God did it."

Again, there was nothing I could add to his answer. I brought my son out here and was experiencing a moment of inspiration. I was the daddy and he was the son; I was determined to teach him something. So I went on to my third question.

"Okay John, those are very big things and yes God did create them, but do you see that small little bird flying right above our heads, who do you think created it."

Almost before I could muster a smile from the satisfaction of finally being able to teach my son something, out shot the
answer:

"God did it."

I figured for my last question I'd better get a little tricky with him. I guessed that since he knew I was his father and he knew that I had something to do with him getting in this world, not to mention I was holding him up from the dangerous water since he couldn't swim. With a scholar's pride, I asked my final question.

"John who created you?"

"God did it."

I asked no more questions that day. That day I was the student, the learner. I learned that some answers are already within us.

This was too good not to share. Just remember “God did it”
