I DID IT MY WAY
This past week I was selfish and out of loop I guess you would say but I had a wonderful time as my grandson and I spent a week together doing what I wanted to do.We traveled to Florida and I was blessed to visit some folks I wanted to see.
Our first stop was in Jacksonville, Florida. The first night I visited with my near 90 year old uncle who has been in the ministry since he was a teenager. His health is not as strong as it once was but he still has fire in his heart for Jesus. It was so good to spend time with a warrior of the Lord and share the goodness that God has bestowed upon us. Should I live as long as he I hope my flame keeps kindled and the fire keeps burning to help hurting souls find their way to Jesus and help them grow in his love.
Our next night, I met with a childhood friend that I had not seen since 1958. It was like walking back into a friendship that had never failed. It was so good to meet him and his family. They were just home folks and made us feel very welcome. I just wish we could have had more time to catch up on things. I told him he was a fossil when he told me they had been married for over 40 years. Of course, I guess I'm one too but it's just unusual with us Viet Nam Vets. It seems so many homes were hindered or destroyed over the years. This is very sad to me.
Next, I met with a Viet Nam Vet I was stationed with in Cat Lai that I haven't seen since 1967. He was kind to invite us to spend time in his home and share a meal. Very few people even know where Cat Lai is but we have an inside joke that if you know about the pink floating latrine, then, you've been to Cat Lai. We couldn't get thru with one story before one or the other remembered another one. This could have gone on forever but I knew they had to work the next day.
My precious grandson kindly listened and endured three nights of these ole stories with my family and friends. Yes, I was blessed to see and share past times and catch up on our families. It is wonderful to have friends.
The rest of the week we spent going down the coast, stopping at beaches and lighthouses, and just enjoying being together and having a few days of fun. Selfish, yes, but how long has it been since you took time to go out of your way to share with someone that has touched your life in the past. Often, we wait until it is too late and we see the paper or get a call they are no longer with us.
I encourage you to take time for you, your family, and friends. It will be worth every effort you put forth to share with each other. Sometimes we just have to go out of our way to do things that need to be done. Jesus went out of his way for you and me when he left heaven, came to earth, sent by God to set us free. I'm thankful I am free in Him today. Have a great week and as the kids say today, "Just Do It."

THE ABUNDANT LIFE IS A YIELDED LIFE #432

THE ABUNDANT LIFE IS A YIELDED LIFE
Romans 6:10-13
10. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
11. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
It is no secret how we are to live the abundant life; it is revealed in Christ in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Faith that saves identifies you with Christ in his death. Faith that yields identifies you with Christ in his resurrection. This is the abundant life.
As a believer you have a choice; you may yield unto God by faith and enjoy abundant life, or you may yield unto sin and endure a defeated life. The power of a yielded life will lift you up above the shadows and plant your feet on higher ground. It will lift you above circumstances that hinder abundant living. This life begins when you yield to Him as Master, allowing Him to live His life through you by faith. Lord help me live an abundant life in you today in Jesus name I pray.

CELL PHONES vs BIBLES
Shared by Charlotte
I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phones.
What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets.
What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it.
What if we flipped through it several times a day.
What if we used it to receive messages from the text.
What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it.
What if we gave it to kids as gifts.
What if we used it as we traveled.
What if we used it in case of an emergency.
What if we upgraded it to get the latest version.
Something to make you say hmmmmmmmmmmmmm about.
Isaiah 55:10-11 says, "As the rain and snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it."

This is a powerful thought and I always say "Wisdom is gained each time the Bible is opened."

LITTLE PEBBLES~
"Behold, now is the accepted time, now is the day of salvation."
*******************
Like a piece of wood in a pond, a Christian can "float" on the surface of sin and not get too wet. But, just as wood, which is in water for too long gets waterlogged and sinks to the bottom, so also does the Christian who spends too much time around sin.
There is an old saying that goes like this: "It isn't the mountain ahead that wears you out, it's the grain of sand in your shoe." Many a man, worried for fear he would not be able to cross a mountain, has had to stop some miles before he crossed the foothills, because he had not taken time to clean out his shoes.
That has been the source of failure in many Christian lives. Eager to avoid the big sins, one's life may outwardly be one of extreme piety, but if there are hidden imperfections - little pebbles in your shoe - these can cause failure in your Christian life. Little pebbles are compared to the things people refer to as "litle sins." These cause one to stumble in their Christian walk. All sin is offensive to God.
It is the "litle foxes that spoil the vines." Christians must lay aside all bitterness, anger, strife, jealousy, and other things, which will lead one, further into sin. We are to be without spot and live a holy life for the Lord. Yet, we see so many who do not walk in truth or the ways of the Lord. Our Lord works from the inside out, and the work which He begins in our hearts, will be reflected in our daily conversation and lifestyle.
Sin begins with thoughts and temptations. When we keep our minds upon the Lord, we avoid the things, which would cause us to stray from the Lord. Jesus has promised to keep us in perfect peace,when our minds are stayed upon Him.
May we keep a renewed mind of Christ, as we seek to serve Him daily. Even little pebbles can become stumbling blocks in one's life. We must let the Lord turn "stumbling blocks into stepping stones," as we yield our lives completely to Him.
Only Jesus can speak peace into our heart and fill our lives with His Spirit. He leads and guides us into all truths. His name is truly wonderful. He is worthy of all our praise, as we seek to be the best we can be, for His glory."Behold, now is the accepted time, now is the day of salvation."Our prayer is to always have a closer walk with our Lord and Savior.Reach out to the Lord and He'll touch you today. Everything He truly touches by His Spirit turns to our good.

LIFE IS WONDERFUL, EXCITING, AND WILD #428

Life is Wonderful, Exciting, and Wild
Things have been happening too fast the last few days but it's been a wonderful, exciting, and wild ride with Jesus on our side. Let me see, just a few days ago my wife, daughter and I planned a week in the sun together. Right before we left we realized our air had gone bad in our house. So, we rushed around to get a repair on a holiday weekend that did not happen. However, we did get it repaired before we left and took off on our trip.
We had a wonderful vacation together but while we were gone we received a call telling us the air was out at our home again. Now, you know we never knew what air was when we were growing up but my how times have changed. My son had a portable unit that would cool one room and he graciously brought it over for our cousin to use while she took care of our home and dog of course while we were gone.
So, we completed our trip and came home to 85 inside and rushed to the one room with air. Now, it’s a weekend again so we wait for repair again. This time we decide the old unit had served its course and would have to be replaced after 24 years of service. After a week of being cool in one room and hot everywhere else we are cool. I thank God for blessing us with the price of a new unit. It was about half the cost I was expecting.
While away on vacation, my son and his family rebuilt the deck on the back of our house and blessed us with several surprises on our new deck. Little did we know all of this expense was going to hit at the same time but God is good and provided ways for us to take care of it.
It is wonderful to have family and time together. This month our family has played together, worked together and worshipped together. For Father's Day all of my family came to our church and we had a day of celebrating in music as the Dasher's sang, played music and worshipped God in our morning service. I thank the Lord this is the first time all of my family have been in Sunday morning service with me on Father's Day in quite sometime.
With all this excitement we still have wild things going on. One of our appliances is on the blink, we had to repair the door on our dryer, we found a leak in the connection to our washer and on and on it goes.
So, why do I share this? I guess because it is on my mind and I wanted to share how that God comes thru at all times. Pastor’s families have things happen just like you do. Some moments are exciting as we worship, some days are wild and unpredictable, but at all times God is wonderful.
I thank God he helps us and blesses us each day regardless of what may come our way. It reminds me of one of my favorite verses "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord which made heaven and earth." Psalm 121:1-2. All we need is God when we face things in our life.
Regardless of how wild the ride may be today rest assured that God is near. When you lift him up in adoration and praise and when you take time to call upon him, he will be near and direct your path as you lean upon him with all that comes your way. Yes, I declare to you that life is wonderful, exciting, and wild with Jesus.

THE HEART OF A FATHER #427

THE HEART OF A FATHER
By Roy Lessin
"See how very much our heavenly Father loves us, for He allows us to be called His children, and we really are!..." I JOHN 3:1 NLT
The heart of a father is found in the heart of God. In order for a man to be the kind of father that his children need, a man must understand what kind of a father God is to his children. Here are four important areas to consider:
1. Leadership - Children need leadership. A father has been called by God to instruct his child, point his child to the path of life, and show his child how to walk upon it. A father is a child's spiritual leader. From a father's lips, a child needs to hear wise words and wise counsel; from a father's steps, a child needs to see the importance of wise choices and good decisions; from a father's love, a child needs to discover his purpose, his identity, and his true worth.
A Dad is respected because he gives his children leadership.
2. Care - Children are very needy people. Every child needs to be cared for and have his or her basic needs met. A father has been given the main responsibility of caring for and providing for his children. A man's work is a God given way for a father to care for his family. No work is small or insignificant in the eyes of God. A man's work is honorable and is a doorway through which a father helps to express his love and care for his children in practical ways.
A Dad is appreciated because he gives his children care.
3. Time - Every child has a need to spend time with his father. Being a father is about being together with your child to share life's joys and God's blessings. Every moment a father spends with his child is another opportunity for good to happen in a child's life. A father needs to value and guard his time with his children. Time is a precious gift that a father can give his children and it will have far greater value than any material gift he could ever buy for them.
A Dad is valued because he gives his children time.
4. Himself - Even greater than a father giving his child the gift of time is when a father gives his child the gift of himself. When a father gives the gift of himself, he is saying to his child, "I am not only spending this time with you, but you have my complete attention. My eyes are upon you, my watch-care is over you, my thoughts are with you, and my love is around you. When God spoke to Abram, God gave him this precious promise, " '...Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.' " GENESIS 15:1 KJV
A special thanks to Lisa for sharing this writing with us. Lisa has a wonderful dad, hi Jim.
A Dad is loved because he gives his children the one thing they treasure most-himself.
A special thanks to Lisa for sharing this writing with us. Lisa has a wonderful loving, God fearing dad. Hi Jim!
As I have shared with you before I was blessed with a wonderful dad. I thank God for allowing me to have him as leader who cared for us boys and gave us time as he shared himself and the love God has for us. I know you've been gone 21 years dad but your mentoring lives on within us.
Happy Father's Day to all our dads. Remember even if you did not have a good earthly father, your heavenly father loves you and extends his hand of care to you each day.

Psalm 105:1-5
1. O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon his name: Make known his deeds among the people.
2. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: Talk ye of all his wondrous works.
3. Glory ye in his holy name: Let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord.
4. Seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore.
5. Remember his marvelous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth.
Psalm 106:1-5
1. Praise ye the Lord. O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: For his mercy endureth forever.
2. Who can utter the mighty acts of the Lord? Who can show forth all his praise?
3. Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times.
4. Remember me O Lord, with the favor that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation;
5. that I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance.
Lord as we call upon your name today, may we be mindful of your blessings. Lord, may we be mindful of those who are hurting, suffering, and in pain. May we grasp hold of your strength as we read your word and go forth in your name to do what you place in our hands to do. We thank you Lord for Salvation. We thank you for providing for our needs. We are thankful you are God and that you alone are supreme. As we rejoice and are glad in the day before us may we ever be mindful of you and your ways in Jesus name I pray.

STRATEGY #425

STRATEGY
What's going on in your community this week? In my community kids are finishing up school for another year and preparing for Memorial Day Weekend. Today, I placed flags on all Veterans graves in our church graveyard and displayed flags all around our fence to honor everyone in our community.
There will be several events around town. The Vietnam Veterans of America will head up an honor at our courthouse. Then, all Veterans will join the VFW and American Legion as they have an annual honor to all who have served and those have passed away this year at a local graveyard. After this one of the Veterans groups will host a meal and fellowship together in the afternoon.
One thing for sure we do our best to not forget our soldiers whether serving on active duty today or having served us in the past. Recently we were blessed to have many of our local service men and women return home after serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
God continues to bless us and for this we want to take time to say thank you. Now for a thought for today I share a story someone shared this week.
Subject: Strategy
One day, there was a blind man sitting on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet and a sign that read: "I am blind, please help."
A creative publicist was walking by and stopped to observe. He saw that the blind man had only a few coins in his hat. He dropped in more coins and,without asking for permission, took the sign and rewrote it. He returned the sign to the blind man and left.
That afternoon the publicist returned to the blind man and noticed that his hat was full of bills and coins. The blind man recognized his footsteps and asked if it was he who had rewritten his sign and wanted to know what he had written on it.
The publicist responded: "Nothing that was not true. I just wrote the message a little differently." He smiled and went on his way. The new sign read: "Today is Spring and I cannot see it."
Sometimes we need to change our strategy. If we always do what we've always done, we'll always get what we've always gotten.
Chinese Proverb:
"When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others."
I hope you have a wonderful day! Spring is finally here and I thank God that I can see it.

WHAT IS MEMORIAL DAY #424
Pastor Gene A. Dasher, Sr.
gene@SurfingwithJesus.com
www.SurfingwithJesus.com
WHAT IS MEMORIAL DAY?
Since many of you that receive Surfing with Jesus are not United States citizens I thought I would look for a good definition of what Memorial Day means to our Nation. This is not meant to be political related in anyway. The best definition I found while searching the net was given by President George Bush in his Memorial Day Proclamation in 2003. As a Veteran I share these thoughts and pray for Peace in our world.
President's Memorial Day Proclamation Prayer for Peace, Memorial Day, 2003
By the President of the United States of America
A Proclamation
"On Memorial Day, America undertakes its solemn duty to remember the sacred list of brave Americans who have sacrificed their lives for the cause of freedom and the security of our Nation. By honoring these proud Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen lost throughout our country's history, we renew our commitment to upholding the democratic ideals they fought and died to preserve.
Each Memorial Day, we pray for peace throughout the world, remembering what was gained and what was lost during times of war. From the bravery of the men at Valley Forge, to the daring of Normandy, the courage of Iwo Jima, and the steady resolve in Afghanistan and Iraq, our men and women in uniform have won for us every hour that we live in freedom. During this year's observance, we particularly recognize the courageous spirit of the men and women in our Nation's Armed Forces who are working with our coalition partners to restore civil order, provide critical humanitarian aid, and renew Afghanistan and Iraq. As we honor those who have served and have been lost, we better understand the meaning of patriotism and citizenship, and we pledge that their sacrifices will not be in vain.
Throughout our history, the decency, character, and idealism of our military troops have turned enemies into allies and oppression into hope. In all our victories, American soldiers have fought to liberate, not to conquer; and today, the United States joins with a strong coalition in the noble cause of liberty and peace for the world. On this day, America honors her own, but we also recognize the shared victories and hardships of our allied forces who have served and fallen alongside our troops.
The noble sacrifices of our service men and women will not be forgotten. Every name, every life is a loss to our military, to our Nation, and to their loved ones. Americans stand with the families who grieve, and we share in their great sorrow and great pride. There will be no homecoming on this Earth for those lost in battle, but we know that this reunion will one day come..."
If you know a Veteran that has served your nation, a simple "Thank You," is the kindest words you can give them today.
1John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

THOU SHALT GUIDE ME #423

THOU SHALT GUIDE ME
Have you ever had a blank mind and no thought about what to say to encourage someone. Have you ever sat down and tried to write and seem to have no thought on your mind. That's where I find myself this moment. So, why try to write at times like these? Because, its moments like this you find yourself saying, Lord, I know not how to pray. I know not what to write, but I trust you to make intercession before the Father that I might feed those who have a need today. Lord may someone receive what they need from you to make it today as they continue their journey in Jesus name I pray.
Read with me in Psalms 73:22-28:
22. So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.
23. Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.
24. Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
25. Whom have I in heaven but thee? And there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.
26. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever.
27. For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.
28. It is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord, that I may declare all thy works.
Wow! This stirs my heart and reminds me of what I have in Jesus. The commentator in Nelson's Life Application Bible says it well. "From birth to death God has us continually in his grip. But far more we have the hope of the resurrection. Though our courage and strength may fail, we know that one day we will be raised to life to serve him forever. He is our security and we must cling to him."
I never know who God is speaking to but I ask you to consider His word. Take on life with renewed strength. God is God, he changeth not, and He never fails. Lift your eyes unto Him and receive His love. Jesus will heal you, he will save you, he will give you peace in your family, he will speak peace on your job, He will open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing you cannot contain. Open up your heart and let Him come into whatever circumstance or need you are facing.
Oh! Praise the Lord. God is speaking to you. Will you receive what He has for you? He is your answer, cry out to Him and He will guide you.

OLD PATHS #421

OLD PATHS (Author Unknown)
I liked the old paths, when Moms were at home.
Dads were at work.
Brothers went into the army.
And sisters got married BEFORE having children!
Crime did not pay;
hard work did;
and people knew the difference.
Moms could cook;
Dads would work;
Children would behave.
Husbands were loving;
Wives were supportive;
and children were polite.
Women wore the jewelry;
And Men wore the pants.
Women looked like ladies;
Men looked like gentlemen;
and children looked decent.
People loved the truth,
and hated a lie;
they came to church to get IN, Not to get OUT!
Hymns sounded Godly;
Sermons sounded helpful;
Rejoicing sounded normal;
and crying sounded sincere.
Cursing was wicked;
Drinking was evil;
and divorce was unthinkable.
The flag was honored;
America was beautiful;
And God was welcome!
We read the Bible in public;
Prayed in school;
and preached from house to house
To be called an American was worth dying for;
To be called a Christian was worth living for;
To be called a traitor was a shame!
Sex was a personal word.
Homosexual was an unheard of word,
and abortion was an illegal word.
Preachers preached because they had a message;
and not afraid to preach the truth, even if it got on people's toes...
And Christians rejoiced because they had the VICTORY!
Preachers preached from the Bible;
Singers sang from the heart;
and sinners turned to the Lord to be SAVED!
A new birth meant a new life;
Salvation meant a changed life;
Following Christ led to eternal life.
Being a preacher meant you proclaimed the word of God;
Being a deacon meant you would serve the Lord;
Being a Christian meant you would live for Jesus;
and being a sinner meant someone was praying for you!
Laws were based on the Bible;
Homes read the Bible;
and churches taught the Bible.
Preachers were more interested in new converts,
than new clothes and new cars.
God was worshiped;
Christ was exalted;
AND the Holy Spirit was respected.
Church was where you found Christians on the Lord's Day,
Rather than in the garden, on the creek bank, on the golf course,
or being entertained somewhere else.
I still like the old paths the best.
I believe it still is the only path to heaven.
John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

PEARL NECKLACE
I've seen this several times and thought I would share it with you today.
The cheerful little girl with bouncy golden curls was almost five. Waiting with her mother at the checkout stand, she saw them, a circle of glistening white pearls in a pink foil box.
"Oh mommy please, Mommy. Can I have them? Please, Mommy, please?"
Quickly the mother checked the back of the little foil box and then looked back into the pleading blue eyes of her little girl's upturned face.
"A dollar ninety-five. That's almost $2.00. If you really want them, I'll think of some extra chores for you and in no time you can save enough money to buy them for yourself. Your birthday's only a week away and you might get another crisp dollar bill from Grandma."
As soon as Jenny got home, she emptied her penny bank and counted out 17 pennies. After dinner, she did more than her share of chores and she went to the neighbor and asked Mrs. McJames if she could pick dandelions for ten cents. On her birthday, Grandma did give her another new dollar bill and at last she had enough money to buy the necklace.
Jenny loved her pearls. They made her feel dressed up and grown up. She wore them everywhere, Sunday school, kindergarten, even to bed. The only time she took them off was when she went swimming or had a bubble bath. Mother said if they got wet, they might turn her neck green.
Jenny had a very loving daddy and every night when she was ready for bed, he would stop whatever he was doing and come upstairs to read her a story. One night as he finished the story, he asked Jenny, "Do you love me?"
"Oh yes, daddy. You know that I love you."
Then give me your pearls."
"Oh, daddy, not my pearls. But you can have Princess, the white horse from my collection, the one with the pink tail. Remember, daddy? The one you gave me. She's my very favorite."
"That's okay, Honey, daddy loves you. Good night."
And he brushed her cheek with a kiss.
About a week later, after the story time, Jenny's daddy asked again, "Do you love me?"
"Daddy, you know I love you."
"Then give me your pearls
"Oh Daddy, not my pearls. But you can have my baby doll. The brand new one I got for my birthday. She is beautiful and you can have the yellow blanket that matches her sleeper."
"That's okay. Sleep well. God bless you, little one. Daddy loves you."
And as always, he brushed her cheek with a gentle kiss.
A few nights later when her daddy came in, Jenny was sitting on her bed with her legs crossed Indian style. As he came close, he noticed her chin was trembling and one silent tear rolled down her cheek.
"What is it, Jenny? What's the matter?"Jenny didn't say anything but lifted her little hand up to her daddy. And when she opened it, there was her little pearl necklace. With a little quiver, she finally said, "Here, daddy; this is for you."
With tears gathering in his own eyes, Jenny's daddy reached out with one hand to take the dime store necklace, and with the other hand he reached into his pocket and pulled out a blue velvet case with a strand of genuine pearls and gave them to Jenny.
He had them all the time. He was just waiting for her to give up the dime-store stuff so he could give her the genuine treasure.
So it is, with our Heavenly Father. He is waiting for us to give up the cheap things in our lives so that he can give us beautiful treasures.
Isn't God good? Are you holding onto things that God wants you to let go of? Are you holding on to harmful or unnecessary partners, relationships, habits and activities that you have come so attached to that it seems impossible to let go? Sometimes it is so hard to see what is in the other hand but do believe this one thing. God will never take away something without giving you something better in its place.
I'm reminded of the song right now. "Give it all, give it all to Jesus." What are you willing to place in the hands of Jesus today?
Will you lift up your hands to Jesus this moment and say here Master, this is for you?
I John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

GOD USES COMMON PEOPLE #419

GOD USES COMMON PEOPLE
God uses all kinds of people to do his work. He even chose you and me. What a treat to be chosen of God. Reflect with me on men and women God used.
JACOB was known as a liar but his task was to "father" the Israelite nation (Genesis 27).
JOSEPH was a slave. His task was to save his family (Genesis 39).
MOSES was a shepherd in exile and murderer. He was to lead Israel out of bondage to the promise land (Exodus 3).
GIDEON was a farmer. He was to deliver Israel from Midian (Judges 6:11).
JEPHTHAN was the son of a prostitute. His task was to lead Israel from the Ammonites (Judges 11:1).
HANNAH was a housewife. She was to be the mother of Samuel (I Samuel 1).
DAVID was a little shepherd boy the least in the family. He would commit adultery and see a man was placed in the right place to be killed. He was to become Israel's greatest King (I Samuel).
EZRA was a scribe. His task was to lead the return to Judah and to write part of the Bible (Ezra, Nehemiah).
ESTHER was a beautiful slave girl. She was to save her people from massacre (Esther).
MARY was just a small peasant girl. She was to be the mother of Jesus (Luke 1:27-38).
MATTHEW was a tax collector. He was to become an Apostle and Gospel writer (Matthew 9:9).
LUKE was a Greek physician. He would be a companion of Paul and a Gospel writer (C0lossians 4:14).
PETER was a proud fisherman. His task was to be an Apostle, a leader of the early church, and a writer of two New Testament epistles (Matthew 4:18-20).
We are called today from all walks of life, background, and discipline to serve God in specific ways. God promises us the tools and strength we need to complete our task. Don't spend time making excuses about your limitations. God knew you before he called you. Instead spend your time, your thoughts, and your energy doing what Jesus wants. Just remember that you should never forget to acknowledge God in all your ways and allow Him to direct your path.
I John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

HE AROSE AND LIVES IN MY HEART TODAY
Have you ever taken time to ponder what you would do if you knew this was your last week on earth? Most of us haven't thought much about it. We find ourselves making preparation for the week ahead with family and friends to be together in church or maybe to gather and have quality family time.
Jesus knew his time was short on the earth. We find him busy continuing to prepare his disciples for what lay ahead. There is no way they could comprehend it at this time. We would find it hard to understand if when someone was to tell us, "I'm going away, I will be betrayed by one of my friends, and I will die."
Let's take a moment and appreciate the magnitude of what Jesus did for us that day. He willingly laid down his life and arose on the third day conquering death and the grave. It's a great time for us to celebrate his life and thank him for his love as he shed his blood for our sins.
Jesus was the only acceptable sacrifice. He was without blemish. We could not be the sacrifice because we have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Oh, what a Savior! Jesus our Lord did it all for you and me. Now, it's up to us to come to him, ask forgiveness, repent of our sins, receive his forgiveness and walk in him.
Why does man make it so difficult and complicated? Jesus has paid the price. Man simply needs to get on board of that train bound for heaven. If you don't believe in the blood of Jesus, if you're too busy to accept his free gift of Salvation, I really feel sorry for you. Why waste your time in foolishness just to pass the time away? The price you pay will be far more than it's worth.
I pray during all your hustle and bustle this week getting ready for the many events like the Easter Parade, the Easter Play, the Easter Cantata, and perhaps a egg hunt that you take time to commune with our Lord. Remember when you take communion he said "as oft as you do this you do it in remembrance of me."
I want to remember him this week and let him know I love him. How about you?
I John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

HIDE THOU ME LORD
Pastor Gene A. Dasher, Sr.

HIDE THOU ME LORD
Like David of ole, I found myself discouraged this week with events of life. I pondered why Lord? Why? Then, I stuck my head in the sand for a day. My wife cried out I don't like you like this and I understood because I don't like it when I waste a day that I should have my eyes and heart lifted up knowing that Jesus loves me and that God never fails.
I am so thankful to God in times like this that he has blessed me with a lovely, God fearing wife that knows I'll come thru it but stays right beside me to lift me up and encourage me. I haven't written this week as you can see but I must write when I can write if that makes sense to you.
As I write this morning the old song "Hide Thou Me" (Copyright 1926, renewed 1954 by Thoro Harris/Assigned to John Benson) comes to my heart and mind which says :
Sometimes, I feel discouraged and think my work in vain,
I'm tempted oft to murmur, to grumble and complain;
But when I think of Jesus and what He bore for me,
Then I cry to the Rock of Ages, hide Thou me.
O Rock of Ages, hide thou me,
There is no other refuge, Can save but Thee;
Thru this old world I wandered, So far, far from thee,
Then I cry to the Rock of Ages, hide Thou me.
I know everyone wants to sing the new songs and dance, dance, dance as you worship. If this works for you to draw near to God that's fine with me but please don't take away the precious thoughts, words, and sounds that have sustained many a soul to bring the gospel to you and me over the years. Every generation comes up with new songs and this is good but what is important is for them to bring us together in Jesus.
This week I found myself down over my church, my weight loss, my truck breaking down on the way to an annual clinic appointment, and AOL continuing to block all my AOL addresses for 12-24 hours at a time, etc. So, I found myself at home just waiting and thinking. Then, out of the clear blue sky a subscriber to Surfing with Jesus writes thanking me for the writing and how he is able to use it in South Africa. Thank you brother for your kind words at the right time. He even honored me by inviting me to minister in South Africa. Wow! This blew my mind.
Now, back to our song:
I have a friend in Jesus blest anchor of the soul, I feel His presence ever when stormy billows roll; And when I think of Jesus and what He bore for me, Then I cry to the Rock of Ages, hide Thou me.
Sometimes I feel I cannot go one step farther on, My body waxing older and falt'ring steps begun; But when I think of Jesus and what He bore for me, Then I cry to the Rock of Ages, hide Thou me.
Yes, pastor needs prayer too, remember when God places someone on your heart to always take time to allow the Spirit of God to speak to you. You will make a difference in their life and you will be blessed as God ministers thru you.
Oh, yes, for those of you that may miss a week of Surfing with Jesus, I'm doing it as a blog now also. Go to Blogger.com, type in SurfingwithJesus and you will find it. Thank all of you for allowing me in your home and your life. I look forward to sharing each week. God bless you.

MY CUP RUNNETH OVER
Pastor Gene A. Dasher, Sr

MY CUP RUNNETH OVER
How many times have we been at our wits end and we thought everyone had failed us and let us down? This week I was listening to comments from other ministers and picked up on some bits and pieces I would like to share.
We have all heard the illustration of the optimist that says the cup is half full. And, we know about the pessimist who say the cup is half empty. Well, here is the best one I've ever heard because it is scriptually based. Are you ready? The child of God says, "My cup runneth over."
Wow, now top that one. Take a look at Psalms 23:4-6
4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
This ought to solve any discussion for you as a Christian. Keep this in your heart each day and you will overcome any dart the devil may throw your way. Child of God the battle is not ours. Lord, it's thine! We desire to stay in your favor where there is victory in God's word.
Tidbit: "Everyday that you stay in Christ, you are making progress."
Tidbit: "Lord, what do I lack? No matter what it is the word of God has an answer for it."
Tidbit: "The Bible is not a book of rules but a bag of seeds."
Tidbit: "Wisdom is gained every time one opens the Bible."
When we stay in Christ and God's word we gain wisdom and knowledge to lead and guide us. As we plant our seed in fertile soil it will flourish and multiply. As you continue with God's plan, I believe you will see how much God will bless you and you will sing praises to him as your cup overflows.
I John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

DEPRESSED
Pastor Gene A. Dasher, Sr.
gene@SurfingwithJesus
March 25, 2006 #415
DEPRESSED
Depressed, yes, I have a right to be depressed. I've earned it, I deserve it, and let me be, I am depressed. Have you ever had these thoughts? Have you ever been down and out over your weight? Have you ever been down and out over the lack of attendance at your church? Have you ever just wanted to say, yes, I'm depressed because the sun isn't shining on your Spring Break? Well, you are not alone, everyone wants to have a pity party and have a gloom and doom moment. It's our right and we just take time to do it. It even feels good and we take time to enjoy it.
The kids and young people have a program called WWJD. When we get to this please perhaps, just maybe, we should take time to do as our youngsters do when they simply ask "What Would Jesus Do?" One writer said in IIThessalonians 3:13 "...be not weary in well doing." Another writer put it this way, "Never tire of doing what is right."
When we decide we will give into depression we overlook the great strength we can find in the word of God. I will always believe that reading God's word and getting lost in His love is better than any remedy this world may offer us. With God's word you will find an answer when you allow His Spirit to touch your life, your heart, and direct your thoughts and actions today.
You want to sow seed? Sow it in the word of God, sow it in prayer and sow in your giving tithes on your time and finances in your local church and your local community. This week I shared a story with a childhood friend about a guest minister at our church. This man preached the most compelling story I have ever heard on tithes on our time.
There are 168 hours in a week. Tithes on your time would be 16.8 hours each week. Just think, how much time do you give to the Lord each week. Let's see, we go to church on Sunday maybe for 1-4 hours. We come to midweek service for 1-2 hours. We do a few things to help others for perhaps 2-4 hours. So, this leaves 6 hours plus to give to service to God.
What do you think would take place if we took the tithes on time and placed it into action for God? I believe we would have less time to engage in depression. I believe we would be fresh and do things anew for Jesus. I know the writer in Malachi 3:10 is referring to financial directions and blessings but just think if we took time to give tithes on our time and follow this verse when he said "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
Wow! WWJD? What Would Jesus Do? There is no limit to what he will do. Depressed? Why? There is so much excitement in God's word; there is joy in serving Jesus. Take time to learn His word and see what the Lord has in store for you as you learn to lean on Him.
I John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Preserve Me, O God
Pastor Gene A. Dasher,Sr.
gene@SurfingwithJesus.com
March 18, 2006 #413
First of all I want to thank those of you that sent a personal note regarding my writing last week on my mom "What a Lady, My Mom." I called and shared many of your comments and her response was "you mean people have heard about my story in China, South Africa and all over the world." Yes, mom, "Well, I just did it for you boys and the grandkids, I wanted you to know my story." I know mom but you have inspired others to want to learn regardless of their age or circumstances. Now, for today.
PRESERVE ME, O GOD
As I think on mom and all she has done in her life, I can see her crying out "Preserve me, O God." Perhaps another way of looking at this would be to say cover me O God. As we face life what better thought could we have than to want the Lord to cover our lips, our thoughts, and our actions each moment of the day. It is human nature to make our plans and then ask God to bless them. However, it would be best to seek His will first and then allow Him to bless us as we take action with our plans.
By communication with God and constantly thinking about the way he would have us go we will gain insight that will help us as we make decisions and we will know His desire for us in everything we do.
I have seen some think that when you ask God to save you and come into your life that everything will be perfect and all life's challenges will be over. Not so, my friend, if you bought that house, that car, those new shoes, you are still responsible to pay for them. God does not exempt believers from the day-to-day things that come our way in life. But, there is one good thing about being a child of God, we can have that sense of security that God will be there and He will preserve us each day.
Tyndale's commentators state that "David found the secret to joy...True joy is far deeper than happiness; we can feel joy even in spite of our deepest troubles...Joy is lasting because it is based on God's presence within us."
Take a moment and join me in reading this Psalm. Allow God to touch you this moment and meditate on his preservation as you place your all in his hands.
Psalm 16
1Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.
2O my soul, thou hast said unto the LORD, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee;
3But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.
4Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips.
5The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.
6The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.
7I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.
8I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
9Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.
10For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
11Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
Now, wasn't it nice to take just a moment for you and God alone? Have a great week.

GETTING CLOSE TO MY BIRTHDAY
SURFING WITH JESUS
Pastor Gene A. Dasher, Sr.
gene@SurfingwithJesus.com
December 3, 2005 #395
As you well know, we are getting closer to my birthday. Every year there is a celebration in my honor and I think that this year the celebration will be repeated. During this time there are many people shopping for gifts, there are many radio announcements, TV commercials, and in every part of the world everyone is talking that my birthday is getting closer and closer.
It is really very nice to know, that at least once a year, some people think of me. As you know, the celebration of my birthday began many years ago. At first people seemed to understand and be thankful of all that I did for them, but in these times, no one seems to know the reason for the celebration. Family and friends get together and have a lot of fun, but they don't know the meaning of the celebration.
I remember that last year there was a great feast in my honor. The dinner table was full of delicious foods, pastries, fruits, assorted nuts and chocolates. The decorations were exquisite and there were many, many beautifully wrapped gifts. But, do you want to know something? I wasn't invited. I was the guest of honor and they didn't remember to send me an invitation.
The party was for me, but when that great day came, I was left outside, they closed the door in my face......... and I wanted to be with them and share their table. In truth, that didn't surprise me because in the last few years all close their doors to me.
Since I was not invited, I decided to enter the party without making any noise. I went in and stood in a corner. They were all drinking; there were some who were drunk and telling jokes and laughing at everything. They were having a great time. To top it all, this big fat man all dressed in red wearing a long white beard entered the room yelling Ho-Ho-Ho! He seemed drunk. He sat on the sofa and all the children ran to him, saying : "Santa Claus, Santa Claus"... as if the party were in his honor !
At 12 midnight all the people began to hug each other; I extended my arms waiting for someone to hug me and do you know .... no one hugged me. Suddenly they all began to share gifts. They opened them one by one with great expectation. When all had been opened, I looked to see if, maybe, there was one for me. What would you feel if on your birthday everybody shared gifts and you did not get one? I then understood that I was unwanted at that party and quietly left. Every year it gets worse. People only remember to eat and drink, the gifts, the parties and nobody remembers me. I would like this Christmas that you allow me to enter into your life. I would like that you recognize the fact that almost two thousand years ago I came to this world to give my life for you, on the cross, to save you. Today, I only want that you believe this with all you heart.
I want to share something with you. As many didn't invite me to their party, I will have my own celebration, a grandiose party that no one has ever imagined, a spectacular party. I'm still making the final arrangements. Today I am sending out many invitations and there is an invitation for you. I want to know if you wish to attend and I will make a reservation for you and write your name with golden letters in my great guest book. Only those on the guest list will be invited to the party. Those who don't answer the invitation, will be left outside.
Do you know how you can answer this invitation? it is by extending it to others whom you care for... I'll be waiting for all of you to attend my party this year...
See you soon .... I love you !
